A couple of weeks ago we were talking about the advantages that Android was an open operating system compared to iOS and we mentioned as one of the main the possibility of installing a ROM. Of course, there are many ROMs available, each with its own attractions, but today we are going to focus on one of the most popular, that of Cyanogen. Can it be a good option for you? We review what could be considered the main reasons to install it on our tablet and thus help you decide if it may be a good option for you.
You never know that if we want it, we have the possibility of installing a ROM on our device Android, but we may not be very clear about what are actually the advantages of doing so. What can a ROM as CyanogenMod do not give us the customization of Android from the manufacturer of our tablet?
Reasons to install CyanogenMod
Almost stock Android. It's not exactly like having a Google Play edition, but it is quite similar: if you are not convinced by the customization that the manufacturer makes of Android, with the ROM of Cyanogen we can bring to our devices an experience that is quite close to that of the Android stock, with a few additions, but quite respecting the essence of the original.
Updates. One of the virtues of CyanogenMod is to carry a fairly good rate of updates, in more than one case ahead of the manufacturers and in some even with more advanced versions than the last one that launched these for the device in question (although, unfortunately, there are also differences between some models and others and the less popular ones continue to suffer).
Privacy. With CyanogenMod we have absolute control over each and every one of the permits that we grant to applications. It seems that with Android M we are also going to advance a lot in this section, judging by what has already advanced us Google about its next update, but taking into account that we will still have to wait a long time to enjoy it (especially with devices outside the range Nexus), it is still an advantage to consider.
Super user. In relation to these privacy options that you make available to us "Privacy-Guard", it does not hurt to also take into account CyanogenMod allows us to enable or disable the root permissions in a simple way (for specific applications or for the device as a whole), from the same settings menu.
Themes If with Android we already have a wide variety of options for customization at our disposal, with CyanogedMod we have even more, and without the need to download any extra application, since it allows us to choose themes with which we can modify icons, fonts, sounds and even the startup animation.
Adjustments Although it is usual that talking about customization leads us to think first of all about aesthetic changes, you already know that Android goes much further, and the same happens with CyanogenMod, which gives us even more options to adjust practically anything in the interface that we can think of so that it is completely to our liking. We can even modify the function of the physical buttons of the device.
On which tablets can CyanogenMod be installed?
If one or more of the reasons that we have explained has convinced you, it only remains to check if you can enjoy the ROM of Cyanogen on your tablet. Fortunately, as we said at the beginning, it is one of the most popular and the list of business in which we can install it is quite wide. The last version, CyanogenMod 12.1, based on Android 5.1 (since CyanogenMod 12 we have Android Lollipop), is available, for example, for the Asus TransformerPad TF300 and also to all tablets in the Nexus range (which also in this case are usually always among the first to receive updates, curiously), for the LG G Pad 8.3, for the Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy Note 10.1 (although not yet for the latest model), for the Galaxy tab pro and for the X.
It is true that there are some notable absences, such as that of the aforementioned Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 or that of the Galaxy Tab S but, as you can see, a good part of the most popular ones is included. The list grows a lot, however, if we take into account all the models in which we can install this ROM although not in the latest version, and even more if we take into account unofficial ports.
