The reason for taking this new size as a reference is the increasing size of smartphones towards screens of 5 and 6 inches or more in some cases. So the traditional 7-inch size would be pushed to grow to differentiate tablets from phones.
According to the data they handle between screen manufacturers, in the third quarter of 2013 we will see new 8-inch models. Another significant milestone will be the arrival of the second generation iPad mini. As far as Apple is concerned, the number of units with respect to the total that your device will represent 7,9 inch will be 60% while the 9,7-inch will take 40%, the rest. This means, as we have already been saying, that the small one sells more than the large one.

Forecasts for 8 inches
In the third quarter of 2013, a massive production of Android tablets with 8-inch screens with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels is expected. Brands such as Lenovo, Acer, Asus and Dell will launch models with these characteristics according to their sources in the production lines. In total, they will represent between 5% and 10% of the total tablet market.
