The Prado Museum wants to celebrate Book Day with the presentation of his iPad app. This is based on the Prado Guide published on paper in 2008, which has sold more than 240.000 copies if we put together the editions in the 8 languages in which it was published. Following this spirit of internationalization, the application will initially arrive in five languages, Spanish, English, Italian, French and Portuguese, and later it will also do so in German, Russian and Japanese.
The selection of languages is based on the statistics of foreign visitors by nationality, 7,6% coming from Italy, 6% from the United States, 4,55% from France and 3,76% from Japan.
The advantage of the application for the Museum is the global distribution capacity that it provides you unlike the printed edition. His approach is ambivalent and can be applied to reference in the visit, education and knowledge or virtual visit.
The content takes the permanent collection as a reference and selects the 400 most important works of the same. Each of these pieces is represented with a high definition photo. The works are organized chronologically and grouped in the different European pictorial schools from the end of the Middle Ages to the end of the Modern Age.
For added there is 50 outstanding works with a deeper study, with a greater number of images with which to discover the details. The selection criteria is based on the relevance within the Museum's collection and how through them we can understand the History of Art. Velázquez, Goya, Rubens, Tiziano and El Greco occupy a central place in this select group. Among the additional contents we can see the back parts of some of the diptychs and triptychs such as The Garden of Earthly Delights o The hay wagon of El Bosco.
It is also offered five themed tours with clearly educational purposes: 50 masterpieces, Velázquez, Venetian Painting, Princesses and Animals from the Prado.
The application can be downloaded for free and will allow us to access a small presentation of the cited sections. If we want to have access to all the content, we will have to make a purchase within the Prado Guide application in the language that suits us best for a price of EUR 9,99.
