Intel will go strong in 2014 to gain a bigger foothold in the Android tablet market. We receive information from anonymous sources among tablet manufacturers plus the testimony of the company's CEO, Brian Krzanich, who announce a really aggressive pricing policy on these devices, being able to see Android tablets with an Intel Atom processor for $ 99.
Digitimes has been talking to their contacts between manufacturers and tells us that the prices of Atom processors have dropped dramatically. American company chips will sell for between $ 15 and $ 20, which represents a reduction of 12 dollars on the prices that were handled to date.
Intel has already been distributing Atom chips from the Bay Trail family this year, such as the Z3740 and Z3770 at prices of $ 32 and $ 37 respectively, the latter two being the most powerful of the line. Despite having a low price, the architecture ARM remains more competitive for the moment.
The previous, lower prices are for more humble processors and there they could fight with their rivals NVIDIA, Qualcomm and MediaTek.
Krzanich recently assured in a talk with financial analysts that he hoped that manufacturers could lower the prices of Android tablets based on its components by as much as $ 99. The good prices for Intel-based PCs don't stop there, laptops with Haswell chips would start at $ 299.
We will also see models with the aforementioned Bay Trail processors with notebook format with touch screens and convertible models to Windows 8.1 tablets that they believe will rival the experience offered by mid-range and high-end Android tablets and iPads. In the case of models with this format but that use processors Haswell, the starting price will be at U.S. dollar 349.
Ultimately, Intel does everything possible to make computers with its chips very attractive from an economic point of view. This identifies one of the problems of abandoning the PC, its price difference compared to low-end tablets.
