More than half of young people already use a tablet, the majority as a substitute for a computer

If we say that more and more users are using a tablet in their day to day, we do not discover anything new, not even if we affirm that many of them have put aside their computer. What is really surprising about the latest IDG study is the numbers that are being reached and the speed at which the global landscape is changing. According to these data, more than half of young people between 25 and 34 years old have and use a tablet, most of whom have even forgotten their desktop or laptop computer.

The PC industry is not going through a good time, manufacturers have not been able to fly back for some time and this situation is mainly due to the irruption of tablets and 2 in 1, which have managed to displace computers from desks in many rooms. The latest study by IDG, a company known for its analysis in the information technology sector, shows once again that the trend continues. The survey was conducted between 23.500 people from 43 different countries.

As the data shows, there are differences between users by age ranges, but the line is ascending in all cases. Young people between 25 and 34 years old are those who show the greatest predilection for tablets, more than half use one of these devices. Those who are between 18 and 24 years old, stay at 33%.

There are two highlights of the report: the first of which is that 40% of all respondents say they have replaced their computer, regardless of whether it is desktop or portable, for a tablet. The second is that they do not use it as a device exclusively to spend free time, as entertainment. Four out of five use the tablet to work-related tasks, especially to carry out investigations after the working day.

More and more videos are being watched

Another section of the IDG study focuses on the use that these same users give to their mobile devices. ORn 75% of the total use them to watch online videos, a considerable jump from the 61 registered in 2012. This growth is confirmed by the operators who have noticed an increase in the use of the bandwidth of the networks due to the higher quality of the videos. The Soccer World Cup that is being held in Brazil it is the clearest example that users use smartphones and tablets to watch games.
