A threat to Surface: Lenovo ThinkPad 2. Comparison

Surface Pro VS Lenovo ThinkPad 2

Lenovo has made a great participation in this IFA teaching models that we already knew slightly, thanks to the little news that they have been giving, and has presented a tablet model with Windows 8 that looks good. We are facing a hybrid tablet that can hit the market hard and that is why we want to offer you a comparison with the Windows 8 tablet that sets the benchmark: Microsoft's Surface. So let's get into this Surface Pro VS Lenovo ThinkPad 2.

Surface Pro VS Lenovo ThinkPad 2

Lenovo ThinkPad 2 has been presented at IFA where we have also seen three interesting Android tablets of different formats and one of them being hybrids. Lenovo ThinkPad 2 is a revision with Windows 8 Pro operating system of its ThinkPad tablet, which used Android, but with the option of connecting a keyboard via bluetooth. Let's see how it looks and differs from Surface in its Windows 8 Pro version.

Screen

We are facing an almost identical size. 10,6 from Surface Pro by 10.1 from ThinkPad 2. In resolution, Surface wins with its 1920 x 1080 compared to 1366 x 768 IPS panel from Lenovo. The Lenovo screen presumably uses Corning Glass as its predecessor tablet did.

Size and weight

Lenovo ThinkPad is a really thin and light tablet. Weighs only 590 grams and has 9.8 mm of thickness. Surface Pro is actually heavier at 903 grams and 12,3mm. Of course, it must be taken into account that it has a built-in magnetic cover - keyboard, otherwise, it would only be 9,3 mm thick.

Performance

Both tablets come with the advanced version of Microsoft's new operating system, Windows 8 Pro. Lenovo ThinkPad will carry a processor Intel Atom Clover TrailWithout specifying which and with how many cores, it is possibly the Z2580 dual-core model with a PowerVR SGX 544MP2 GPU. Surface Pro meanwhile it will carry an Intel Core i5 processor again without specifying its number of cores and power.

Connectivity

It is said that the Lenovo tablet will have a version with WiFi only and another of Wi-Fi + 3G. Microsoft hasn't said anything about the Surface Pro in this regard. It is clear that in both tablets we will find ports of all types, but in the ThinkPad 2 we will also have NFC.

Cameras and accessories

The Lenovo tablet will have two cameras being the 8 MPX rear. Surface Pro will only have one front camera for video calling.

As we already know, Surface will have a cover / keyboard that makes it more of a convertible than a hybrid tablet. ThinkPad 2 is designed to work like a normal tablet although it offers the option of connecting your own keyboard via Bluetooth.

Conclusions

The Lenovo tablet has great potential and an interesting endowment although we do not know all the data. Microsoft is leading the charge on all these devices by delaying the launch of Windows 8 and Surface but, above all, by not giving any information regarding prices. On October 26 there will be a barrage of offers that will be very difficult to digest and that could result in unexpected effects.
