The first convertible Chromebook is already a reality from the hand of Acer

Chromebooks as well as 2-in-1 tablets and convertibles emerged as an alternative to “classic” laptops, either economically or looking for new, more versatile forms. The strange thing is that until now, and these formats have coexisted for a long time, no company had proposed to combine both. Acer has been the first to present a device with these characteristics, the Chromebook R11 with 11,6-inch screen capable of 360-degree rotation that have shown in their conference of the IFA fair that these days is celebrated in Berlin.

The Taiwanese manufacturer was one of the best to make the most of its moment at the IFA yesterday. As we told you, they presented the Predator 8 GT-810, your gaming tablet that comes to stand up to the Nvidia Shield Tablet, they also revealed the Predator 6 phablets (with objectives similar to the 8-inch tablet) and Jade Primo, one of the first models to hit stores with Windows 10, new version of Microsoft's operating system, pre-installed. Although it was in the background, the Chromebook R11 also debuted at that event.

The first convertible Chromebook

The Acer Chromebook R11 stands out more for the novelty of its proposal than for its characteristics, and that is that its technical sheet has some lights but a lot of shadows. Starting with the 11,6-inch screen, whose resolution remains at X despite being the main axis of the Chromebook thanks to its ability to rotate up to 360 degrees, allowing three modes of use: laptop, tablet and inverted V (Ideal for viewing any type of content by placing the device on a table or other flat surface).

Inside we find a processor Intel N3150 or N3050 accompanied 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. It also has 802.11ac WiFi connectivity, a USB 3.0 port and an HDR webcam. This is all we know at the moment of a device that will be released in North America in October and later, in November, it will be available in Europe, Africa and the Middle East for a price of $299. Without detracting from the attempt of Acer, which may come in handy depending on which user profile, it is always difficult to be the one who sets a precedent and we expect better proposals for convertible Chromebooks in the future.
