Advantages and disadvantages of using iCloud

Whether we are ready or not, iCloud is coming; and it will most likely end up playing a leading role in our digital lives. For now, it comes with the promise of notably improve integration and synchrony between our iOS devices and Mac; as well as offering immediate access to files and websites, from where we need it and when we need it.

Last week we reported that Apple would start providing iCloud accounts to iPhone and iPad users. The set of consequences derived from this change should be seen in practice, however, some advantages and disadvantages in this regard are beginning to be glimpsed and discussed.

Comfort: The most positive thing without a doubt is that our email account and all our files and documents will be at our absolute disposal regardless of the device we are using.

Simplicity: This area is going to improve greatly relative to MobileMe. Communication between our Apple devices works in a very great way more fluid and the environments are quite Nicer.

Harmony: iCloud customize automatically our devices with all the applications we have on them. If we replace a broken iPhone with an iPad, we will be totally familiar with the new device.

Privacy : It is not that we do not trust Apple, but it is that there are not too many things that will not know about us: our name, the number of credit cards, passwords, who are our friends and family, the trips we make, etc. With iCloud we will be “giving away”All that information to one of the most powerful companies on the planet.

SecurityEven knowing that Apple is not going to misuse our data (until now we have no reason to think so), it is foreseeable that crackers from half the world will insist on break the system iCloud security. If they succeeded, we could not even imagine the catastrophe that could be.

Lockdown: Perhaps it is difficult to find today a more appropriate place than the iOS ecosystem to store all our content. However, if at any point an alternative comes up, getting all the material out of iCloud and taking it elsewhere can be really tricky. Not to mention that there are some things that we can never recover. Apple, of course, wants to tie us up for life and thanks to iCloud the relationship with the company will take a step further.
