Just over 10 days ago, on April 15, Huawei held an event in London that served to introduce the Huawei P8, its flagship smartphone for this 2015 and the Huawei P8max, a phablet version of it. The Huawei P8 Lite also appeared (with trimmed specifications), although it was not shown on stage so as not to tarnish the performance of its high-end companions. Now, as some rumors pointed out in recent days, it is the turn of the tablet segment, and Huawei has announced two new models: Play Pad Note and Honor Pad.

The tablet market is beginning to move. At this time of year, only the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet and Samsung Galaxy Tab A have been protagonists among the major manufacturers of the platform, and it is expected that from now on the activity will go 'in crescendo' during the coming months with the appearance of the most anticipated models of 2015. It is not the case of the tablets that the Chinese firm has announced today, few expected them although they are presented as interesting options for the mid-range next to the Honor 4c smartphone, successor to the Honor 3c as a representative of Huawei in the low range.

During the last days, it had already been commented on the possibility that today, April 28, Huawei would announce three new devices. They have hit the mark with the premiere of a smartphone and two tablets. The first of them comes under the seal of the Honor brand, Huawei representative in Europe. It is the second model that is presented with this firm after the Honor T1, announced last December.

Among its characteristics we find a design quite similar to that of the T1, with 8,5 millimeters thick and 278 grams of weight. Mount a screen is 7 inches with resolution 1.024 x 600 pixels, the processor Spreadtrum SC7731G with four cores at 1.2GHz accompanied by 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage. The battery is 4.100 mAh and offers 3G connectivity (microSIM slot) allowing you to rmake and receive calls.

Something like an inexpensive version of the Huawei MediaPad X2 presented at the Mobile World Congress, its price is 599 yuan, about 90 euros. And it seems that large phablets or compact tablets with telephone capabilities are one of the lines of work that Huawei wants to focus on during this year 2015. We will still have to see the successor to the Huawei Mate 7, which has been one of the company's best-selling devices in 2014, greatly helping its growth in the West, especially in Spain.

Huawei Play Pad Notes

Although it is difficult to classify the Honor Pad as a mid-range device, the Huawei Play Pad Note fits perfectly in this market classification. In addition, we are already a 'hybrid' device between smartphone and tablet but it is a tablet with all the laws. Although its design is quite similar, the size of its screen grows up to 9,6 inches, an unusual figure since it almost does not reach the 9,7 inches of the iPad Air 2 and many other models. The resolution of the panel this time is situated above the barrier of the HD, specifically 1.280 x 800 pixels. The dimensions are still quite successful, with 8,3 millimeters thick and 430 grams of weight.

Inside we find a Qualcomm processor Snapdragon 410 with support for 64 bits (we really miss a chip from the 600 series that would make a significant leap in quality), accompanied by 1 GB of RAM. The main camera mounts a sensor 5 megapixels, the battery has 4.800 mAh capacity and both this and the previous tablet use the Android 4.4 Kitkat version with Huawei's own customization. The price of this Huawei Play Pad Note is 999 yuan, slightly less than $150 to change.

Although Huawei's effort to offer low-priced alternatives is appreciated, we are still waiting for a high-end model from the Chinese company. One of their goals for 2015 was to grow in the tablet market and to achieve this, they need a team capable of competing with the best: Samsung, Apple, Sony, Nvidia, Nexus… We will see if they are capable of achieving it or they will settle for consolidating themselves among the large smartphone manufacturers.

What do you think of the new Huawei models?
