Apple will not include YouTube for iOS 6, its next operating system

Yesterday Monday, Apple announced that its new operating system iOS 6 will not include Google's YouTube application by default. This adds to the news that it will not natively carry Google Maps either but its Maps application to replace it. It seems that the license I had with Google to insert YouTube as a predefined application has expired and will not be renewed. But this will not mean that iOS mobile and tablet users cannot continue to watch YouTube videos.

Apple assured that its customers will be able to continue watching YouTube videos through the Safari browser and that Google is working on a new YouTube application that will appear soon in the App Store.

Some analysts indicate that we are facing another symptom of a stark rivalry between the two giants and that this will not stop growing. In my opinion, rivalry is not the origin of this situation. In order to reach an agreement, it is necessary to have consensus and will on both sides and we consider that the renewal of the agreement did not convince either of them.

The native YouTube application on iOS operating systems had two characteristics that made this renewal difficult. One clearly annoyed Apple and the other Google.

Why Apple didn't want to renew

YouTube for iOS until now has been a native application, this means that not updated unless the entire operating system was updated. The experience of using the application was difficult to improve because those updates do not arrive as often as those of a downloaded application. IPad users will soon be able to download their application from YouTube and the quality of the application experience will depend on Google. In this sense, they know that Google works well, because the quality of the application for Android has always been higher than that for iOS, its interface is better, it is viewed with higher quality and the videos and channels are found faster. Now Google can also take care of and convince iOS users and Apple will take advantage of it.

Why did Google not want to renew

In the native application of Youtube on iOS no advertising and Google would be losing a good amount of money that it is making in the Android application. In addition, many music videos, where there are more ads, do not appear in the catalog in the iOS application, that is, they would only be accessed by link. So, apart from the economic issue, as we indicated before, Google will be able to give a better YouTube experience to iOS users and thus seduce them towards its side and that of Android. It is unlikely that Apple will release its own video app to compete with Youtube. What is more, Vimeo it is already there and not even they can be compared in results with YouTube.

What to do to continue using YouTube

 You have to be calm, in fact, the final version of iOS 6 will not be available until the fall, so Google has time to develop that download application and in the event that it does not reach that date you have two options:

If you are dying to see the new Apple operating system and all its functionalities. You update to iOS 6 and watch YouTube videos through your Safari browser. It is not the best option but it still works.

If you can't live without the YouTube app, then don't update your iPad to iOS 6 until Google releases its app. The wait will surely not be very long and it is not that iOS 6 is a total revolution compared to iOS 5.
