The Kindle Fire HD they could live a second life. The inexpensive Amazon tablets have the drawback of coming with a fairly closed operating system that does not satisfy true lovers of open Android. This is not a problem anymore. From now on we can install the CyanogenMod 11 ROM both in the model 7 inches as in that of 8,9 inches.
The technical specifications of the Seattle tablets are still very valid despite the fact that were launched in 2012 and more if we think about the price they have. The 7-inch model starts at 139 euros and the 8,9-inch model starts at 199 euros. Both have a good dual-core processor and have high-resolution displays and excellent WiFi antennas.
The problem is in Fire OS, that Android modification that focuses on the purchase and playback of Amazon content and that does not allow us to make the customizations that computers with the Google OS do give us.
On the Cyanogen forum it has been announced that the nightlies CyanogenMod 11 for both models. The builds are not entirely stable, as the name of their development phase indicates, and they have some bugs and problems. CM 11 gives us a almost pure Android 4.4 KitKat experience but with even more customization elements typical of this ROM.
Obviously you have to root the computer first. In a quick web search you will find several ways. Choose the one that makes you feel the most comfortable.
