We already show you a comparison between the 10.5-inch model and the iPad Air, but how does the model of 8.4 inches With respect to iPad miniRetina?
Integrated
Despite its high level in Technical specifications, the new tablets of Samsung still use manufacturing plastic, so lovers of metal housings will continue to prefer the finishes of the iPad miniRetina. It is worth mentioning, in any case, that there are also new features with regard to the rear casing of the Galaxy Tab S 8.4, which mimics the style of the Galaxy S5.
Dimensions
El iPad miniRetina, like its predecessor, it is one of the lightest and thinnest tablets that we can find, but there are a few models in Android that manage to overcome them and the new Galaxy Tab S are among them, with 6,6 mm thick (versus 7,5 mm) and alone 294 grams weight (versus 331 grams). There is not much difference in size either (21,28x12,56 inch against 20x13,47 inch), and if we take into account that the screen is significantly larger (half an inch more), it is a clear point in its favor.
Screen
As we anticipated, the screen of the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is half an inch larger than the iPad miniRetina (8.4 inches against 7.9 inches), but it is not the only difference between the two. The most important, probably, is the use of panels Super AMOLED for tablet Samsung, something the South Koreans hadn't done in a long time and which, in fact, makes it the main focus of the device. Although less significant, since the level is very high in both cases, it should also be noted that the resolution of the new tablet is higher (2560 x 1600 against 2048 x 1536).
Performance
La Galaxy Tab S 8.4 In principle, it has an important advantage in this section in view of the technical specifications, by having a Octa 5 Exynos 5420 1,9 GHz y 3 GB of RAM memory, compared to A7 two-core to 1,3 GHz y 1 GB RAM memory iPad miniRetina. We already know, however, that Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), they perform much better than what would be expected from these figures, so we will have to wait for the benchmarks and video comparisons to assess the fluidity of each one of them.
Storage capacity
Although the iPad miniRetina has the advantage of being available with up to 128 GB of storage capacity (while the maximum for the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 es 32 GB), it is important to note that the Samsung tablet allows us to expand the memory externally via micro-SD (up to 128 GB) which in practice is a cheaper option.
Cameras
It is true that it is probably not the most important section when evaluating a tablet, the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 once again excels here at iPad miniRetina, with a main chamber of 8 MP and with LED flash (5 MP for Apple) and another front of 2,1 MP (1,2 MP for Apple).
Autonomy
This is the section in which we can least clarify at a glance at the technical specifications, since the balance between capacity and consumption is quite unpredictable. Until we can see independent tests, in any case, the only data we have is this: an autonomy of a few 10 hours video playback for the iPad miniRetina and a battery of 4900 mAh for Galaxy Tab S 8.4.
Price
As we said at the beginning, the price of the new tablet Samsung seems fixed precisely with the competence of the iPad miniRetina in mind, since it is practically identical: $399 for the model 16 GB and with connection Wi-Fi for the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 y $389 for the same variant of the iPad miniRetina.
