In recent times we have been hearing a lot about the Galaxy Tab S4 and it seems that we could already know enough about it, although there are still a few unknowns to clear: we review everything we know and what we don't so that you can get an idea of what to expect from it and to what extent it may be worth waiting for its launch.
Pretty classic lines
In the design section is where we have the most unknowns, although a image appeared yesterday in which theory we could have seen it for the first time, it could have shed some light on the matter: if the photograph is authentic, it seems that we should expect some relatively classic lines, with fairly thin and regular frames, but still very visible , the orientation would be to portrait mode despite its elongated shape (as in the Galaxy Tab A 10.1) and you would have to prepare to say goodbye to the physical buttons.
Fingerprint reader and iris scanner
In the image we are talking about it is not seen and we cannot confirm its location (could Samsung surprise us by placing it on the back or perhaps on the side?), but we do hope it arrives with fingerprint reader digital, although apparently it will be the first tablet that incorporates a iris scanner.
Glass housing
It is not confirmed but it is reasonable to expect it to arrive with a case of Cristal, like the Galaxy Tab S3, which is right now what Samsung you are using on all your smartphones of a certain level, but without that meaning that we should expect wireless charging (and since we are, we will also say that it is probably not waterproof either, because surely we would have heard something about it by now, which is something normal in tablets, but that does not stop being a small disappointment).
USB Type-C port and headphone jack port?
We can trust the port to be USB Type-C, of course and we would be surprised if the headphone jack port, as the MediaPad M5 has done, taking into account that Samsung It has not done it with any of its high-end smartphones so far and in that format there is more pressure to do so.
S Pen and keyboard
We have confirmed that Samsung is also preparing the launch of a new keyboard cover and there is little doubt that it will also be compatible with the S Pen. The first of these accessories is surely optional, but it is not so clear with respect to the second: the most reasonable thing is that it should be included again, but perhaps the Koreans will decide this time to give the option of doing without it to be able to launch it with a base price lower, depending on how you strategize against the iPad Pro 2018.
Super AMOLED display with Quad HD resolution
The screen is perhaps the one that we know the most and with more security and everything indicates that we are going to find a few changes with respect to the Galaxy Tab S3, with which probably the only thing it has in common is the use of panels Super AMOLED: the first change is that we go back to the aspect ratio 16:10 (the classic Android tablet, instead of the 4: 3 iPad that its predecessors adopted); the second the resolution goes up to 2560 x 1600; the third that the diagonal grows until 10.5 inches. Overall, it seems to us a positive evolution, we have to say, that it will allow you to get more out of it in the multimedia section, a point where Samsung continues to lead.
Harman Kardon stereo speakers
This is a section about which we do not have much information, because it is not the kind of data that usually appears in benchmarks and in the kind of records that are filtered before the launch of a mobile device, but it does not seem that it is a very risky bet to say that at least we will have four Harman Kardon stereo speakers in the sound section. We don't know if Samsung it can surprise us with some extra extra.
Snapdragon 835 and 4 GB of RAM
This is another piece of information that at this point seems quite safe, because there have already been several references and it is also consistent with what we saw him do to Samsung with the Galaxy Tab S3: betting on a high-end processor, but from a previous generation to lower the price a bit. We would, therefore, in this case have a Snapdragon 835 whom it seems that they will accompany 4 GB RAM memory for multitasking, sufficient technical specifications to put it at the forefront of Android tablets together with the MediaPad M5.
Android 8.1 Oreo
Of course, the Galaxy Tab S4 will arrive with Android Oreo and in recent records we have seen that it could do it even with Android 8.1 instead of Android 8.0. We do not know if that can mean that it will also arrive with a new version of TouchWiz, but at least we can hope that it will arrive with all the improvements that we have already seen in the last one. update for Galaxy Tab S3. It is reasonable to trust that it will update to Android 9, but let's not expect it to do so before 2019.
64GB storage capacity
Another good interesting improvement we are going to have in the storage capacity section, because it seems that in the end with this tablet Samsung is going to make the leap to 64 GB of internal memory, just like we have in their flagship. We do not know, however, if there will be a superior version, although it seems unlikely. In any case, we will surely have a card slot micro-SD, so the need is less than with the iPad.
12 and 8 MP cameras
Data on the cameras have also appeared, which will be from 12 MP the main and 8 MP the front. It should be noted that the figures do not exactly match those of the Galaxy Tab S3, where the main one is 13 MP, which makes us think that it is another section in which it will have been improved, although obviously not enhancing the number of megapixels. Larger pixels? Optical Image Stabilizer? We can only speculate and it is not clear how much it can compensate Samsung Try too hard to improve this section, always secondary on a tablet for most users.
No news on the price
One of the great unknowns that we have at the moment is how much it could cost us to get hold of it, but if we had to make predictions, we would say that it will cost more or less the same as the Galaxy Tab S3 (that is, around 650 euros), because judging by its technical specifications, it is not clear how it could have managed Samsung to reduce costs. Unless, as we have commented before, you decide to give the opportunity to buy it without the S Pen.
It is expected to be presented in summer
Go ahead, in this case we do not have solid clues either, but there seems to be a certain consensus that the clearest bet would be for an official presentation this summer, and here we have two possibilities: one, that it is released only with a press release between July and August, as happened with the Galaxy Tab S2; two that Samsung reserve it for him IFA of Berlin, which seems perhaps more likely, especially if the presentation of the Galaxy Note 9 ends up early in August, as some leaks have pointed out.
