Gmote: control the PC keyboard and mouse from your tablet

In this tutorial we are going to teach you how to control the keyboard and mouse of our PC from our tablet thanks to a program called Gmote.

Installation

The first thing we must do is download the server on our computer from their website. Once downloaded, we will have an executable called GmoteServer-xxx.exe

We proceed to the installation of the Gmote server on our system. To do this, we double click on the executable and an installation wizard similar to that of any Windows program will open.

Gmote

We click on "next" and we will have the option to establish the installation path. We continue with the installation by clicking on "next" once more and the server installation begins.

Gmote

Once the installation is finished, we click on "finish" and we will have the server ready on the computer. Next we are going to install the client on our tablet.

To do this, we must download and install Gmote on our device. Gmote is available in the Play Store.

Configuration and commissioning.

Now we proceed to configure the server on our computer. For this we run the Gmote Server on our computer, and the first warning that the program shows us is that we deactivate if we have a firewall or, at least, accept all the connections that it asks for. We accept that message.

We continue with the GmoteServer, and the next thing we have to do is enter a password to our server. We write it and click on "ok" to continue. On the next screen, click on “done” since it is oriented to other functions that Gmote has.

Once these steps are done, we have our server up and running. Now we proceed to configure the client on our tablet.

Once the program has been downloaded and installed on our tablet, an icon will have been created for us in the applications menu. We click on it to run the program and the first thing we will see is a warning that tells us that we must install the server on our computer. Click on "Start Gmote" to continue.

Gmote

The client will then search our network for an activated Gmote server. In a few seconds our server should appear listed on the screen.

Gmote

We press on it and it will automatically connect us. The first thing we will see is a control knob for music, video and the like. To be able to use the touchpad, we must open the menu and click on the button that says “Touchpad”. A black screen will appear with the Gmote logo in the middle. We press at any point and it will ask us for the password that we have specified to the server previously. We enter the password and we have our touchpad ready and working.

Gmote

In the upper left part of the screen we can toggle between using the mouse or keyboard.
