Google Chromecast will turn any TV into a Smart TV

The flashes of camera flashes as well as the torrents of electronic ink generated by Google's July 24 event were mostly directed at the New Nexus 7 and Android 4.3. However, there was another presentation that almost no one has noticed that was much more than interesting. We talk about chromecast, an accessory that allows us to reproduce various digital content online accessible from our tablet or smartphone on a television. The cool thing is that it will work for both Android as for iOS. And still there is more it also works with Chrome for Windows and Mac.

Google Chromecast is a small accessory that consists of a small WiFi receiver or with a HDMI connector that we plug into the television if it has this type of port. It is shaped like a pendrive but simply uses another type of connection. Let's say it is a simplification of everything that Nexus Q and many other TV sets were trying to do. With Chromecast any HDMI TV becomes a Smart TV.

Once connected we can take what we are seeing in Chrome on any of these devices by installing a plugin that makes the image and sound to streaming television over WiFi. In addition to this, several applications from Google itself will have the option to share by Chromecast and do exactly the same. At the moment the applications with this capacity are like Google Play Movies, Google Play Music and YouTube.

But the thing does not end here, those of Mountain View have developed an SDK called Google Cast that allows developers to include in their applications the option of sending a streaming signal for Chromecast with the online content they offer us. Netflix, that wonderful streaming service for movies, series and documentaries that several countries enjoy and that Spanish laws deprive us of, has already taken the step forward and includes it.

Simply in all these applications we will see a button that when pressed will send the content to the television. In fact, you can already install it on your PC in Chrome as a plugin. You can also install this Android application o this one for iOS to start configuring connections. The normal thing is that it does not let you install it from the Spanish app store.

In their presentation, they announced that soon more applications will have this capacity. The device is priced at $ 35 and currently can only be purchased in the United States at Google Play o Amazon.
