We have been collecting rumors for several months about the project of a unified messaging service that, for a long time, it has been thought that it would be called Babel and that it has simply remained in Google Hangouts, assuming a small transformation on the service that until now received this name and that was limited to video chat rooms of Google+. At last, in any case, the speculations are over: Google has made its new Hangouts app official, and has revealed all its features, including the announcement that it will be available not only for Android, but also for iOS y Chrome from today.
The mysteries about Google's project to compete with Whatsapp and other messaging services have finally concluded: today it was announced at the I / O Google Hangouts, which comes along with several quite interesting news.
The first of them is precisely its name (for months it has been thought that Google's unified messaging project would be called Babel), although this does not surprise us since there had been leaks about it last week. The second news is that, finally, it will not be part of any of the other great services of the company, but it will be an independent application. Another very interesting question is that it is not going to be limited exclusively to Android, but will also be available for iOS and Chrome.
The presentation of this new application has focused mainly on the role that it will have in it the conversations, instead of the contacts, which will be there, always available, but in the background. As in the original Google Hangouts, the video chat option will be essential (with a new option for groups of up to 10 people), but, as had been rumored for so long, it will now integrate other forms of communication as well.
Our conversations, also, thanks to the fact that they will be stored in the cloud, they can now be transferred between all our devices, as well as notifications (if you delete them in one, they are also deleted in the others) and the photographs that we want to share.
Finally, and in the same way that it has happened with Google Play Games, we have known as soon as we know it that we will not take long to be able to use it, since it has been announced that it will be available from today.
