What is Google Meet
Google Meet is Google's video call platform integrated into Workspace, the payment platform that Google makes available to both companies and educational centers to organize the management of the company / center.
The search giant has never been characterized by offering stability to its products. However, it seems that with Google Meet, things are different.
By integrating it within Workspace, companies and educational centers have one more tool at their disposal to manage meetings when they cannot be held in person.
In addition, by allowing video calls to be recorded, it allows all employees or students to review them or take a look at them if they have not had the opportunity to attend, as long as they have the necessary permissions.
Recording video calls is ideal in any situation, since it allows us to view it again to review if we have forgotten something, be it from a class or an important work meeting.
Google accounts that allow you to record Meet video calls
As I mentioned above, users of free Google accounts can use the Meet video call platform without any problem.
However, they do not have the option that allows them to record them activated, forcing the user to resort to third-party applications that offer us similar results, but require them to install one more application.
If you want to record a Meet video call natively, you must be a user of one of the following Google Workspace accounts:
- Individual Workspace Subscriber
- Essentials
- Educational accounts:
- EducationPlus
- teaching and learning
- Enterprise accounts:
- Essentials
- Standard
- More
- Business accounts:
- Standard
- More
If you have any of these accounts, you won't have any problem recording your video calls through Meet as long as:
- You are the organizer of the meeting.
- Belong to the same organization as the company that created it.
If you are in a video call with one of the accounts that have this option activated, you are not the organizer or part of the company that makes it, you will not be able to record the video call natively.
You can record it using other applications that we will talk about later.
What content is recorded in Meet video calls
All the content that is shown in the video calls will be recorded, both the images of the participants and all the documents that are shared in the video call.
All chat messages that are shared are also included. Notifications related to the conversation such as the entry or exit of new users will not be recorded.
Where are Meet recordings saved?
All Meet video call recordings are stored in the Meet Recordings folder of the Google Drive account of the user who recorded it.
Once the file has been recorded, we can download it as if it were a normal file or share it with other people directly from our Google Drive account.
How to record in Meet natively
If you have a Google account from the ones I mentioned above, you meet the necessary requirements and you want to record a video call, you must follow the steps that I show you below:
- The first thing we must do is create a meeting or join one where we are invited.
- Next, click on the Activities button, located at the bottom right of the application.
- Next, click on Recording > Start. At that point, all participants will receive a notification that the video call is being recorded.
- To stop the recording, click on Activities > Recording > Stop recording.
How to record on Meet with third-party apps
If you don't have an account that allows you to record the video calls you make with your friends, family... all is not lost.
The simplest solution for using any application that allows us to record the screen of our computer along with the audio.
Xbox game bar
The easiest and cheapest solution we have at our disposal to record Meet video calls on Windows is to use the Xbox Game Bar.
Unlike other applications that allow us to record the screen or desktop of our computer, with Xbox Game Bar we can only record the screen of the games and applications that we have open in the foreground, more than enough for what we are looking for.
The Xbox Game Bar is a native app on Windows 10 and up, so you don't need to install any third-party apps to use it. We just have to press the key combination Windows Key + G.
The interface is placed on top of all the applications that we have open. At the top left, we find the panel Broadcast and Capture.
Within that panel, we click on the button represented by a circle. Next, we go to the Audio panel and check that the audio of the Meet application is activated so that it is recorded.
Record screen on Mac
Just as in Windows there is no need to install a third-party application, Apple also offers Mac users the possibility to record an application in video along with the corresponding audio.
The process is as simple as pressing Command + Shift + 5. Next, we select video and the application from which we want to record the video, along with the audio.
Viewer discretion
If your computer is old and the option to record the Xbox Game screen is not available, the best option available is to use the OBS app.
