HP gives away two years of Internet connection with its laptops and tablets

Hewlett-Packard, better known as HP has announced the launch of the service DataPass in Spain. With the purchase of some of the laptop and tablet models, the company will give away two years of Internet connection, at the rate of 200 MB monthly. It is a movement with which the manufacturer begins to act as an MVNO, and therefore, the operators will not interfere in said service, there will be no bond that binds us to a commitment to stay with any of them.

HP is one of the most powerful manufacturers in the PC industry, but the dominant position it has held in recent years has been threatened by Lenovo despite the fact that important actors such as Sony, which put the manufacturing of this equipment aside to focus on its mobile division. In the tablets something different happens, they have not managed to catch up with the benchmarks. With this service, they seek to encourage the purchase of their products in our country.

HP DataPass, it is a service through which the American company offers for free, At no cost, and to all users who buy one of the tablets or computers included in the offer, a broadband connection from the moment it becomes effective. A total of 200 megabytes per month during a total of 24 months.

Salvador Cayon, Director of Marketing and Personal Systems of HP, in statements to Five days explains that “there will be no need to sign any type of contract or acquire any type of commitment to stay with any telephone operator. We are going to market through all our portable channels and tablets with the free preloaded internet connection, becoming a virtual mobile operator (MVNO) ”.

It is an offer that many may find attractive for several reasons. Users often use the tablet in environments or places where a WiFi connection is not available, and thanks to DataPass they will always be able to access the Internet. On the other hand, this possibility is open to anyone who uses a model compatible with mobile networks, but assuming a second contract with an operator (apart from the smartphone) is in many cases impossible for the domestic economy, discarding this option and losing part of the advantages of these devices. "The offer is designed to secure internet connection”, Says Cayón.

Of course, once the 200 MB is exhausted, we can buy additional data by credit card or Paypal at prices, they say, very competitive. An important detail is that to provide this service, HP will use the orange network. The models currently offered with the DataPass are the laptop Pavilion 360 and tablets HP Slate 10 Plus, HP Slate 8 Plus, and HP Slate 7 Tab Ultra.
