HP Pro Slate 8 vs Nexus 9: comparison

In the past week HP surprised us by jointly presenting a wide variety of new tablets, among which the HP SlatePro, available with 12 and 8 inches. Apart from their stupendous Technical specifications, if something stands out about these two models, it is their enormous resemblance to the design of the HTC One, actually much larger than that of the tablet that HTC has manufactured for Google, with which we put it face to face today in our comparative.

Integrated

As we say, it would be easy to think that the tablet HP is actually the one manufactured by HTC, given the similarity of its front with that of the HTC Onewhile that of HP bears much more resemblance to tablets of Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),. Regardless of our aesthetic assessment, we must recognize both the virtue of the location of the stereo speakers on the front and both also have different accessories to make its use to work more comfortable, although the scale is tilted in favor of the Pro Slate probably due to stylus Duet Pen that is included.

Dimensions

Taking into account that the screen of the Nexus 9 is almost an inch larger than that of the Pro Slate 8, it cannot be blamed for the fact that its dimensions are also somewhat larger: the tablet HP Mide 20,7 x 13,7 cm and of Google 22,82 x 15,37 cm. The same happens with the weight, logically (350 grams against 425 grams), although not with the thickness, section in which they are tied with 8 mm.

Screen

Regardless of the difference in size (7,86 inches against 8,9 inches) these are two virtually identical screens, with the same format (4:3), the same material (LCD) and the same resolution (1536 x 2048). Just the fact that the screen of the Pro Slate 8 having a smaller screen means that it has a higher pixel density in its favor (PPI 326 against PPI 281).

Performance

This is, respectively, the weakest point of the Pro Slate 8 and the strongest of the Nexus 9, so that's where the biggest differences are. On the one hand, the tablet HP ride the relatively old Snapdragon 800while that of Google has the powerful Tegra K1, much higher in performance (particularly in graphics processing), although both have the same frequency (2,3 GHz). The Nexus 9 It also has a more advanced version of Android (Android Lollipop front Android Kit Kat), but they are even in terms of RAM (2 GB).

Storage capacity

In this section, however, we must give the advantage to the tablet of HP, not so much for its hard drive (which is up 32 GB in both cases), such as by giving us the option to expand your memory externally through card micro-SD, an option that we always lack with the devices of Google's Nexus range.

Cameras

Although, as we always say, this is probably not too important a question when choosing a tablet, the truth is that victory is again for the Pro Slate 8, although for very little, since both have a similar main camera (8 MP) and only in the front camera does it have some superiority (2 MP and video recording to 1080p against 1,6 MP and video recording to 720p).

Battery

On this occasion, not only do we not yet have data from independent autonomy tests, but HP It has not even revealed yet those of the battery capacity of the tablet, so we are forced to leave the comparison on hold in this section, to update it when they are available.

Price

At the moment we do not have confirmation of the price of the tablet HP in euros, but even in the worst case, with a dollar = euro conversion its price should not rise above $449, which would be significantly higher than the Nexus 9, that is of $389. It must be taken into account, however, that the Pro Slate includes your own stylus, as we have already mentioned.
