HP Slate 7 VS Asus Memo Pad 7. Comparison of cheap Nexus 7 rivals

HP Slate 7 vs MemoPad 7

Lately we see many 7-inch Android tablets trying to rival Nexus 7. The problem they find is that both in specifications and in price it is a good bet. Attacking him for specifications is equivalent to losing the battle with the balance price that Google gives unless you want to sell something else (the case of Amazon) and attacking him for price means launching a low-end product on the market. For this possibility, two major brands with HP Slate 7 and Asus Memo Pad 7, which we are going to measure in a comparative.

Screen

The screen resolution is identical. While that of the American tablet has an LCD panel that will give more quality to the image than the backlit LED of the Taiwanese. Obviously the first consumes more battery than the second. We will also see that the HFFS technology of the first gives us more angle of vision.

Size and weight

We are facing almost identical conditions. It would be crazy to make a decision regarding these tablets based on the millimeter differences in size and a few grams in weight.

HP Slate 7 vs MemoPad 7

Performance

Both have the same operating system: Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Although, each one has a different bet to move it. The HP model has a more powerful dual-core CPU than Asus, although it lacks a separate graphics processor that its rival does. The Mali-400 GPU will be noticed in games and applications with complex designs.

Beyond this, in data management the American continues to win.

Storage

Memo Pad 7 gives us two storage options reaching up to 16 GB and we also get 5 GB of Asus Web Storage, although we can supply these with the countless free cloud services for Android. Both can be expanded by microSD. Although for the same price we get more capacity with the Asian one.

Connectivity and sensors

Both are modest in this section, but Slate 7 has two functions that we do not find in its adversary. First, it can connect with other devices via Bluetooth and, second, it has a GPS sensor which is essential for some applications that require geolocation or simply for a more comfortable use of Google Maps.

Cameras and sound

Again, here the American beats the Asian. The first has two cameras, although the rear is very humble, while the second only has one for video calls. In terms of sound, the first has two stereo speakers in front of the second's single speaker.

Autonomy

In this section we do not have specific figures for the HP tablet but its promised 5 hours are less than the 7 hours that the 4120 mAh of the Asus would give us. It is understandable in a way, having a less energy efficient screen and more functionalities and sensors that make their own expense.

Prices and conclusions

When HP Slate 7 arrives in Europe we hope that the 169 dollars will be converted proportionally to euros and will not do like other brands that make a 1 to 1 conversion between the American and European currencies.

Although this will pass, it really feels like we'd get more for our money from the HP tablet than the Asus tablet. Its processor, its Bluetooth connectivity, the GPS and its secondary camera are compelling reasons for it to win at the same price. The only annoying lack of capacity, since filling 8 GB is easy although we can always move content to the SD.

The computer giant gives the feeling of wanting to acquire a reputation in this segment of the market, not only by embracing Android for the first time but by launching a really appetizing product at almost bargain prices.
