We are obviously referring to Samsung and Galaxy S6 edge +, since, at least for the moment, you already know that the Galaxy Note 5 still does not reach stores in Europe. The curved-screen phablet of the Koreans, in any case, is an equally complicated competitor, although that of the Chinese company has some important points in its favor, such as a more affordable price. Integrated

Thanks to that curved screen we just mentioned, the Galaxy S6 edge + It is one of the most original phablets in terms of design that we can find, but innovation is not its only virtue, since it also offers us an elegant combination of metal and glass. The Mate 8In any case, it is not far behind, thanks to its metal casing and its great finishes. Both also have a fingerprint reader.

Dimensions

As you can see, the Mate 8 is a bulkier device (15,71x8,06 inch against 15,44x7,58 inch), but the truth is that it cannot surprise us either, since its screen is also larger. The truth is, however, that it also has an advantage when it comes to thickness (7,9 mm against 6,9 mm) and weight (185 grams against 153 grams).

Screen

We have already mentioned two important differences between the screens of these two devices: the first is that the one of the Galaxy S6 edge + it is curved, which allows for some additional functionality; the second is that the Mate 8 is broader6 inches against 5.7 inches). It should be borne in mind, however, that there are still two other quite significant ones, since the Samsung phablet has a higher resolution (1920 x 1080 vs 2560 x 1440) and therefore a higher pixel density (PPI 368 against PPI 518), and that it uses SuperAMOLED panels instead of LCD.

Performance

Regarding the performance section, the most important difference between the two is the processor: the Galaxy S6 edge + mounts a Exynos 7420 eight core to 2,1 GHz, the most powerful of last year, but the Mate 8 arrives already with a Kirin 950 eight core to 2,3 GHz, last generation. In RAM, however, the phablet of Samsung has a point in favor which is to have 4 GB, while the basic model of the Huawei is 3 GB. Of course, the latter already arrives with Android Marshmallow pre-installed.

Storage capacity

Absolute tie on the other hand in the section of storage capacity: in both cases we can choose between 32 and 64 GB internal memory, which we can expand externally through card micro-SD. It should be remembered, in any case, that only the 64 GB model of the Mate 8 It has 4 GB of RAM memory.

Cameras

Regarding the main camera, we find very similar specifications between these two phablets, with a sensor of 16 MP and optical image stabilizer in both cases, although the aperture of the Mate 8 is f / 2.0 and that of Galaxy S6 edge + it is f / 1.9. Regarding the front camera, that of the phablet of Huawei has more megapixels (8 MP against 5 MP), but a smaller aperture (f / 2.4 vs f / 1.9).

Autonomy

We will have to wait a bit yet to see how much use the Mate 8 of its huge battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh, but a priori it seems that it should be easy to obtain better results in the autonomy tests than the Galaxy S6 edge + with its battery of 3000 mAh (and Quad HD display). We will have to wait, in any case, to confirm or deny these assumptions.

Price

If Mate 8 It has lagged behind in some sections, this is the point at which it can be considered that it compensates for any possible disadvantage, since it is launched with a price much lower than that of the Galaxy S6 edge + ($600 against $800). It must be borne in mind, of course, that it has been on sale for some time, in some distributors we can already find the phablet of Samsung for around 700 euros.
