Huawei Mate 8 vs Xperia Z5 Premium: comparison

Huawei Mate 8 Sony Xperia Z5 Premium

We have already brought you a few comparative between the new Huawei Mate 8 and the most interesting phablets that were released at the end of last year, but we still had to measure one of them: the Xperia Z5 Premium. As happened yesterday when facing the Galaxy S6 edge +, it must be borne in mind that the new phablet of Huawei and of Sony there is a relatively large price difference, so the question will be mainly to see in which cases and depending on which are the Technical specifications the ones that we give more importance to, whether or not it is worth making the extra outlay.

Integrated

In this section, the two devices are at the highest level, offering us in both cases a fingerprint reader and premium finishes, although each of them has opted for different materials: in the case of the Mate 8, we find the usual metal casing of the devices of Huawei and in the Xperia Z5 Premium with the glass housing typical of the range Xperia Z.

Dimensions

If we take into account that the screen of the Mate 8 is half an inch larger than the Xperia Z5 Premium, it can be seen that the difference in size between both devices (15,71x8,06 inch against 15,44x7,58 inch) is actually quite reasonable. In fact, if you look at the thickness (7,9 mm against 7,8 mm) and in weight (185 grams against 180 grams) we find a striking resemblance.

Screen

The screen is one of the great attractions oflXperia Z5 Premium and one of the characteristics that justify its price, since it is the first phablet that offers us 4K resolution, even if you have to take into account that it only uses it with multimedia content. The difference with the Full HD screen of the Mate 8 is therefore significant (1920 x 1080 against 3840 x 2160). If we do not care so much about the resolution as the width of the screen, however, the advantage is for the phablet of Huawei (6 inches against 5.5 inches).

Performance

In the performance section, on the other hand, it is the Mate 8 the one that prevails, since it equals the Xperia Z5 Premium in RAM memory (3 GB) and, in fact, it has a version that would win even here (with 4 GB), but, in addition, it has the advantage of mounting a latest generation and more powerful processor (Kirin 950 eight-core and 2,3 GHz maximum frequency vs. Snapdragon 810 eight-core and 2 GHz maximum frequency), and to arrive with Android Marshmallow pre-installed.

Storage capacity

Although if we compare the basic model of both devices we find an absolute tie, with 32 GB internal memory and card slot micro-SD in both cases, the Mate 8 has in its favor being available also with 64 GB, for those who want to depend as little as possible on external memory.

Cameras

This is another of the strengths of the Xperia Z5 Premium, which achieved first place in the DxO ranking last year, thanks to its camera 23 MP and aperture f / 2.0. That of the Mate 8, in any case, is also at a very good level, with 16 MP, also f / 2.0 aperture and optical image stabilizer. Huawei's phablet, in addition, would prevail as far as the front camera is concerned (8 MP against 5.1 MP).

Autonomy

Until we have independent autonomy test results we cannot draw definitive conclusions regarding which one we can expect more hours of life between charges, but the truth is that as far as battery capacity is concerned (and although we cannot let keep in mind that this is only half of the equation) victory is clear for the Mate 8 (4000 mAh against 3440 mAh).

Price

As we said at the beginning, the price difference between these two phablets is substantial, since the Mate 8 will go on sale from $600 and Xperia Z5 Premium he did it at the time for $800. Now that a while has passed it is possible to find something cheaper the phablet of Sony in some dealers, but not much more (it is rare to see it for less than 750 euros).
