Huawei P20 Pro vs Huawei Mate 10: comparison

comparative

We retake the comparative dedicated to the new flagship of Huawei, which we are going to face today in a fratricidal duel with the other great phablet that we have in the Chinese manufacturer's catalog: what are the differences between each of them and which one best suits what you are looking for? We review their technical specifications to help you choose: Huawei P20 Pro vs. Huawei Mate 10.

Integrated

Those of Huawei They are one of the few high-end phablets that we can find right now with the fingerprint reader on the front, and it must be said in their favor that they manage to do so even despite the fact that the frames have been reduced to the maximum in both cases. The main difference, the most obvious, is that the Mate 10 still maintains a fairly classic style while in the Huawei P20 Pro We have a notch in the style of the iPhone X, a point that is sure that, for aesthetic reasons (and we are in favor or against) it will be enough to decide more than one. Going to more practical questions, it should be noted that the new model has greater water resistance but also comes without a headphone jack port.

Dimensions

The Mate have always been among the largest phablets that we could find, but in this case we see that it is the more compact of the two, although the difference may seem greater than it is due to the different proportions that each one has (15,5x7,39 inch against 15,0,5x7,78 inch), since the Huawei P20 Pro it is more elongated. In thickness (7,8 mm against 8,2 mm) and by weight (180 grams against 186 grams), in fact, it is the latter that has the advantage, although it is very small and can go unnoticed.

Screen

That difference in size that we have seen that there was between the two in the previous section is explained (at least in part) by the fact that the screen of the Huawei P20 Pro is also bigger (6.1 inches against 5.9 inches). The same happens with the difference in proportions that we have also highlighted that could be appreciated and that derives from the fact that their screens also have different aspect ratios (18.7: 9, more elongated than usual, compared to the classic 16: 9). Not only that but the Finnish phablet also has a higher resolution (2240 x 1080 front 2560 x 1440).

Performance

In the performance section, the balance is tilted to the side of the Huawei P20 Pro despite the fact that they both mount the best processor Huawei right now (Kirin 970 eight core to 2,4 GHz). This is due more than anything to the RAM, which in the Mate 10 it is still “only” 4 GB, while in the new flagship it is already 6 GB. In software, however, the older model is not that far behind thanks to the fact that it was one of the first phablets with Android Oreo.

Storage capacity

With regard to storage capacity, the distribution of points is imposed because, on the one hand, the Huawei P20 Pro can boast of leaving us nothing less than 128 GB internal memory while in the Mate 10 we find the most common 64 GB, but, from another, to the new flagship of Huawei card slot is missing micro-SD, which leaves us without the option of pulling external storage if necessary.

Cameras

In the camera section, however, the new model retakes the advantage, one of the sections where there is more difference between the two: although in the Mate 10 we have a not inconsiderable dual camera of 20 MP, with f / 1.6 aperture, optical image stabilizer and 2x optical zoom, with the Huawei P20 Pro we still take a new level leap, with a triple camera 40 MP, with f / 1.8 aperture, 1,4 um pixels, optical image stabilizer and x3 optical zoom. There is also a rather noticeable difference in what it does to the front camera, with 24 and 8 MP, respectively, although it should be noted, yes, that the pixels of the second are 1,4 um.

Autonomy

In the autonomy section we find that the two start from the same point, with a battery of exactly the same capacity (4000 mAh), but now only on the screen (which in the Mate 10 is of higher resolution) it is to be expected that there is a sufficient difference in consumption so that the Huawei P20 Pro take some advantage and, indeed, that is what we saw happening in the ranking of better battery phablets, where the first obtained 89 hours and the second 87 hours.

Huawei P20 Pro vs. Huawei Mate 10: final balance of the comparison and price

Leaving aside our opinions regarding the notch, on the whole it would have to be said that the Huawei P20 Pro is a superior option, especially if we have a particular interest in the cameras section, but it should not be overlooked that the Mate 10 it's pretty close to it in pretty much everyone else and actually has a higher resolution.

It is therefore worth assessing well the importance that the camera can have for us or having a little more RAM or autonomy, because the price difference between the two right now is quite remarkable: while the Huawei P20 Pro was launched by $900 and it is still too early to be able to find it cheaper, the Mate 10 right now it has in many distributors prices that are around between the 650 and the 600 euros.
