Intel is strong on mobile. Atom Z2580 outperforms Exynos Octa and Snapdragon 600

Intel Atom Z2580

We get a study that compares the performance of the best mobile chip with Clover Trail + architecture with the various leading ARM chips. The study shows that Intel Atom Z2580 outperforms its competitors in many ways. We refer to Samsung's Exynos Octa and Exynos 5250, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 600 and Nvidia's Tegra 3.

Intel's arrival on mobile devices seemed a bit late. Its chips had many disadvantages a priori and few predicted a good future in this format. ARM's dominance, endorsed by the different producers who use its architecture, seemed unshakable. However, in 2013 we have seen the arrival of many devices that move with their chips, almost all of them high-end and with major brands embracing them.

The chip that ABI Research has tested comes mounted on the Lenovo K900, ZTE Geek or Asus Transformer Book Trio. From the first of them, we already had results extracted from the AnTuTu benchmark, but here several aspects are addressed.

This SoC is composed of a processor of two 2 GHz Saltwell cores, but in the comparison they have made, it is measured to be composed of four cores.

Intel Atom Z2580 vs. Exynos 5 vs. Snapdragon 600

It seems that the one from Intel gets a very similar performance than its more powerful competitors although slightly higher. However, where it really stands out is in the battery saving almost halving that of the Exynos 5 Octa and exceeding that proportion compared to Qualcomm's.

The only aspect in which it lags behind is in video recording where it is surpassed by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 600 in the Galaxy S4, although this result is largely due to an additional image processor from Fujitsu.

Intel is doing things well and so much so that we see how with the Atom Z2560 they are powering the two new Samsung tablets, the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 and 10.1, Asus Phonepad Note FHD 6 y Memo Pad FHD 10.
