Lenovo Tab3 7 Essential vs Yoga Tab 3: comparison

Lenovo Tab3 Essential Lenovo Yoga Tab 3

In the last few days we have been leaving you comparative in which we measured the Technical specifications of the new low-cost tablet, the Tab3 Essential, with the best alternatives from the main manufacturers, but today we are going to focus on helping you choose between this model and the one that until now was the reference in the basic-medium range in the catalog of Lenovo. We refer, of course, to the Yoga tab 3, more specifically, to the 8-inch version, a little more expensive than this new 7-inch model. Is it worth the extra investment or is it better to bet directly on the more affordable of the two?

Integrated

Despite the fact that the two tablets bear the Lenovo seal, the truth is that there is a very important difference in the design section that must be taken into account, and it is none other than the cylindrical support that characterizes all the tablets of the Yoga range and that not only helps us to hold the device in our hands more comfortably, but also houses a higher capacity battery, as we can see in the corresponding section.

Dimensions

This same cylindrical support makes the comparison of the dimensions somewhat complicated, since it is not taken into account when measuring its size (19x11,3 inch against 20,98x14,58 inch) nor its thickness (9,9 mm against 7 mm), which gives it a certain advantage, especially considering that its screen is slightly larger than the one on the Tab3 Essential. In weight, however, its impact can be appreciated more (300 grams against 468 grams).

Screen

We just said that the screen of the Yoga tab 2 is something bigger than that of the Tab3 Essential (7 inches vs 8 inches), but it should also be mentioned that its resolution is equally higher (1024 x 600 against 1280 x 800), enough to make up for the difference in size and beat in pixel density (PPI 170 against PPI 189).

Performance

In the performance section, however, we find an absolute tie, since the technical specifications of their respective processors are identical (four cores and a frequency of 1,3 GHz) and both also have 1 GB RAM memory. The advantage would be, in any case, for the 7-inch model, which would have the update to Android Marshmallow Now available.

Storage capacity

When it comes to storage capacity, however, the balance becomes unbalanced again, as both have a card slot micro-SD, which allows us to compensate a little for a somewhat short internal memory, but this is, in any case, double in the Yoga tab 3 that in the Tab3 Essential (8 GB against 16 GB).

Cameras

Although it is not its most important advantage, since it is normal that they are not used both in a tablet and in a smartphone, the 8-inch model is also ahead in the cameras section, with one of 8 MP, while in the 7-inch it is 2 MP.

Autonomy

We already anticipated that the Yoga tab 3 I was going to have an advantage in the autonomy section thanks to that large capacity battery that is housed inside its cylindrical support and now we can see it: while that of the 7-inch model is of 3450 mAh, the 8-inch is nothing less than 6200 mAh, a really big difference that far exceeds the consumption of having a slightly larger screen with a higher resolution.

Price

As we said at the beginning, the superiority in technical specifications of the 8-inch model is accompanied by a higher price and what we have to do is put one in relation to the other: the Tab3 Essential can already be obtained in some distributors for $100 but it is expected that when its large-scale launch takes place in our country we can find it for around 80 euros: the price of the Yoga tab 3 varies a lot depending on the distributor but is usually between the 150 and the 200 euros.
