Liberté, egalité, fraternité. Archos seeks revolution

Archos Diamond tablet

Technology is not something that understands borders or countries. Despite the fact that when talking about this field, we all immediately think of great powers such as Japan, the United States or South Korea, there are good firms in the old continent that although they do not have the fame or impact of their competitors on the other side of the world. world, they are authentic references in their countries of origin.

This is the case of the French Archos, which is a firm consolidated in the Gallic country and, although in our country it is not so well known and their products are not so implanted, it is a whole box of surprises both in the field of tablets and in that of smartphones. Next we will talk about its flagship tablet model, the Diamond Tab, which claims to give a breath of fresh air to a market that shows signs of exhaustion not only in Europe but in the rest of the world.

Range of terminals

The French technology company has a total of 30 devices on the market. This is a large amount with which Archos aims to position itself in as many areas as possible. To do this, it has divided its devices by ranges. We can find from the Helium 4G series, whose main characteristic is connectivity, up to the Cesium series, intended for those looking for a tool for their work, going through the Themed Series, directed both for its design and for its benefits to children and to users who use their tablet to play games.

Consolidated in France but ...

Archos, founded in 1988, is a benchmark on the other side of the Pyrenees, however, despite being one of the great European technology companies, it is not widely established beyond the French borders and it presents great competitors such as BQ in territories such as Spain.

It must also fight against giants already consolidated for decades in the continental market such as Samsung, LG or Apple. One of the strengths it has to position itself in the market is that its range of products are affordable and have a great variety from the lowest terminals such as the Archos Cobalt to higher ones such as the Diamond Tab.

Archos Diamond Tab: The jewel in the crown

The executives of the French brand are aware of the great competition that currently exists in the field of tablets (as in that of most technological products) and for this, they are going to launch soon Archos Diamond Tab, a high-performance device with which they decidedly seek a niche in the field of upper-mid-range devices and that aspires to become the flagship of this firm.

A terminal full of unknowns

Because the launch date of this terminal is not yet known, the little information available has come through leaks. However, if we have some data in addition to that provided by the firm's own website on this model.

Screen

The Diamond Tab will feature a 7,9 inches which, although it may be small for some users, has a large 2K resolution. It is not at the height of other terminals such as the 2-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab S9,7, but it is next to the 8-inch model of the South Korean firm.

French high speed

In the field of processors, Archos has managed to place its star model among the good terminals thanks to an 8-core processor that guarantees maximum speed and unsurpassed performance for those who will use this device in the future both as a leisure tool and for the workplace.

At the height of the greats in connectivity

Most mid-range terminals have a Wi-Fi or 3G connection so that users can surf the Internet without problems. Nevertheless, Archos has opted for the connection as one of the strengths of its new terminal and for this, it has provided it with 4G speed in addition to allowing wireless connection. This puts it on the same level as high-end devices.

Archos Hellium 4G

First great lack

Not everything could be good in this device and proof of this is memory. In this sense, Archos is positioned within the middle terminals. This does not mean that it is a bad device in terms of this feature, but that it does not reach the leaders like Surface. With a RAM of 3GB and a storage capacity of 32 more (which we assume will be expandable), the French firm remains relegated to the field of medium terminals in terms of storage capacity.

Good operating system but with limitations

When it comes to talking about other tablet models such as BQ's Tesla or Sony's Xperia Z4, we find that regardless of their range, firms opt for different operating systems. In the case of Samsung for example, we see how its highest terminals, the Galaxy Tab S2 of 8 and 9,7 inches, have Android while the highest devices of the Spanish firm have Windows 8.1 with the possibility of updating it to 10. The new Archos tablet will feature Android 5.1 Lollypop.

Price and autonomy: Two other mysteries

We know little about the Diamond Tab and this, although it is a strategy of the firm itself, may disenchant some users. Both the battery life of the device as well as its price and release date are a mystery. We will have to wait a while to know the benefits of this model.

Uncertain future

Archos is determined to get its place in the tablet arena with a wide variety of device models and is also looking hard for a niche among upper-mid-range handsets. Nevertheless, We will have to wait for the Diamond Tab to go on sale to see if all the expectations that the firm's executives have placed on this device are met and if it really deserves to occupy a position in the club of the best terminals and to place Europe as a point of relevance on the world technological map.

The truth is that I don't know how that model will turn out, I had this one: http://www.monitorizo.es/archos-arnova-i7-g3-b00b0c8uoa and the truth is that it did not turn out very good.

On paper it had acceptable characteristics, but then it was slow, it was blocked, the battery lasted little….

Anyway, I hope this model does better.
