MediaPad M3 10 Lite vs MediaPad M3: comparison

Even though it might seem like a comparative unnecessary, someone imagining that the only thing that changes is the size, one of the tablets that is more interesting to measure the new one MediaPad M3 10 Lite is to 8 inch model that saw the light a few months before, because, as you will be able to see, there are a few other differences to take into account.

Integrated

In the design section is where there are fewer differences between the two tablets, probably: if we leave aside the question of size, and the fact that, as usual, the largest is oriented to use in a landscape position and the smallest to the use in portrait position, logically we find that the lines of the two are very similar and share all the hallmarks of the range, from the metal casing to the harman kardon stereo speakers, through the fingerprint reader.

Dimensions

Comparing the dimensions of the two tablets is not very useful in this case, because their sizes are obviously very different, but we can at least confirm that they have a very similar thickness (7,1 mm against 7,3 mm) and put the difference in weight in figures, which is one of the factors that can most affect our user experience (460 grams against 310 grams).

Screen

As we have said from the beginning, there is a huge difference in size between the screens of these two tablets (10.1 inches against 8 inches), but it is far from the only one that must be taken into account, even in this section, since it should also be noted that the resolution of the smallest is much higher (1920 x 1200 against 2560 x 1440). What they do agree on is that they both use the 16:10 aspect ratio (optimized for video playback), even though it is more common every time that 8-inch tablets bet on the 4: 3 of the iPad.

Performance

The 8-inch model not only has more resolution but also comes better equipped in the performance section, with a more powerful processor (Snapdragon 435 eight core to 1,4 GHz against Kirin 950 eight core to 2,3 GHz) and more RAM (3 GB against 4 GB). The 10-inch model, however, has in its favor already arriving with Android Nougat, while the other is expected to receive the update as well, but there is still no date scheduled for this.

Storage capacity

The tie is absolute, on the other hand, in the storage capacity section, where we find that both offer us 32 GB internal memory expandable externally via card micro-SD, quite respectable technical specifications that few Android tablets surpass.

Cameras

We also find total equality in the cameras section, with a main camera of 8 MP, and what is more remarkable, another of the same characteristics on the front. Since we always insist that more modest cameras are enough for an average user, it must be said that at least we approve of the strategy of Huawei to give more relevance to the camera for selfies and video calls, which will be used more on a tablet (usually at least).

Autonomy

Unfortunately, we cannot say much yet about which of the two has better autonomy or which of them can be expected, because the only thing we can do at the moment is to compare the capacity of their respective batteries (6660 mAh against 5140 mAh), but it is very difficult to draw conclusions from there because the logical thing would be that its consumption would be very different, although we do not know how much (the screen of the 8-inch model is much smaller but its resolution is much higher). We would have to wait to have real use test data.

Price

As we have seen, the smallest tablet, curiously, is the one that leaves us with the best technical specifications, especially in the screen and performance sections, which are the ones that always attract the most attention. In fact, this is a full-fledged high-end tablet, while its older sister moves between the high-end and the mid-range. Thus, although compact tablets are usually cheaper, the superiority in hardware of the 8-inch model makes its price somewhat higher and, together, we find that both are quite close to the end in this sense: the new MediaPad M3 10 Lite has been announced by $300, while the first MediaPad M3 is found for about $330. Therefore, we will be more interested in assessing what size we prefer and how important factors such as resolution or power are for us.
