How to use the new multitasking options in Android 9.0 P

Android 9.0

When we have reviewed the most interesting news of the second beta of Android 9.0 P we have never stopped mentioning the changes that have been made to the multitask, but taking into account the party that can be obtained from these features on the larger screens of tablets, today we are going to take a closer look at the new options what we have.

This is the new multitasking screen

We have already explained (and shown you with images) on other occasions what the new one will look like multitasking screen, but we are going to start doing it one more time to put ourselves in the situation: the first thing we are going to see is that the app carousel now moves horizontally, but we will also notice that a search bar has been added and that below everything we see five apps suggested by Google (one of the many ways that artificial intelligence will come into play in Android 9.0 P).

How to access it and change the app

This is something that we have also discussed, but just in case, let's remember that one of the novelties of Android P is that we can choose a system of gesture navigation which will make the multitasking button disappear. Instead, to get to this recent apps screen, what we will have to do is swipe up from the home button, and then we can use it to move between apps, sliding to the right. We must insist that it is only an option and that it does not seem that it will be activated by default, so it can still be used in a conventional way, if we prefer.

How to enter split screen from multitasking

At this point I'm sure that all tablet users will have enough control over the basic gestures and tricks to use the split screen (a very useful function in this type of device), but there is one with which we will have to familiarize ourselves again, and that is the way to enter it from the multitask: until now we did it by holding down the app window that we wanted to open with the multi-window, but now to go to this mode we will have to press and choose the option in the contextual menu that appears (as seen in the image you have at the beginning).

How to work with two apps without having to put them in split screen

We have already commented, although a little above, that now on this screen of recent apps we are going to view the apps "live", something that will be very useful for multitasking, because it means that we will be able to, for instance, cut and paste going from one app to another without having to enter them. The smart selection (which, in addition, we already saw in the first beta that now has an iOS-style magnifying glass mode) will work here too, which will help to do it more easily.
