Nexus 10 vs iPad 4: comparison

Android Apple

At last we know the characteristics of the tablet with which Google will enter the 10-inch competition and it is inevitable to wonder if he is really in a position to rival the, until now, great protagonist of this sector, the iPad. We present a comparison of the specifications of iPad 4 y Nexus 10 so you can judge for yourself.

Nexus 10 vs. iPad 4

Size and weight. The size of both tablets is similar, although Google's is somewhat longer (about 26 cm high and less than 18 wide) than Apple's (24 cm long by 18,5 wide), and they are very similar also in terms of thickness (less than 9 mm) and weight (around 600 grams both).

Screen. Although these are not abysmal differences, the balance tips slightly in favor of the Google tablet. Although the size is very similar, the Nexus 10 screen is somewhat larger than the iPad 4 (10,05 vs 9,7 inches) but, above all, it stands out that it has managed not only to match the quality of Retina displays, but to surpass them, with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 (300 pixels per inch) vs. 2048 x 1536 (264 pixels per inch).

Cameras. Nexus 10, unlike Nexus 7, incorporates two cameras, same as the iPad, although the resolution of its front camera is a little better (1,9 MP vs 1,2 MP), the rear camera being identical (5MP on both devices).

Processor and RAM. In this section, both devices have top-of-the-line components, although it will be necessary to wait for the benchmark tests of both to verify their true capacity. Nexus 10 works with a dual-core processor ARM A15, and iPad 4 incorporates the processor A6X, the great novelty of this generation compared to the previous one. In RAM, yes, the Google tablet is superior with 2GB vs 1GB in Apple's.

Storage capacity. Here the comparison favors the iPad 4 that offers models with up to 64GB of hard disk, while the maximum storage capacity that we can achieve for Nexus 10 is 32GB. In any case, both tablets fail to offer the possibility of inserting micro SD cards to increase their memory.

Battery. Apple tablets have always stood out when it comes to offering great autonomy and iPad 4 remains in this line, with a really low consumption for the power of the device (42,5 watts per hour), allowing you to maintain the standard of 10 hours continuous video playback. Nexus 10, in any case, also offers good features, with a battery of 9000 mAh that would allow 9 hours continuous video playback.

Connectivity. Again Apple seems to be victorious by offering at least the option of acquiring the tablet with 3G / 4G connectivitywhile the Google device is only available online Wi-Fi. In favor of Nexus 10, on the other hand, it can be said that even without a mobile connection it has GPS, option that is only available on iPad 4 for tablets that have it. Both devices have Bluetooth, although only Nexus 10 incorporates NFC.

Operating System. This is a point more subject to personal taste and more difficult to compare objectively, but there are some points that are remarkable, anyway. In favor of iOS There is the fact (as Tim Cook recalled in the presentation of the iPad Mini) that the App Store has more than 250.000 applications optimized for tablets, a point that is undoubtedly one of the weaknesses of Google Play, where applications developed for phones is the majority. On the other hand, Nexus 10 will run with the latest update of Android and will have features unthinkable for the iPad, such as multi-user support.

Price. There is no doubt that this is the main asset of the Nexus 10, whose cheaper model (only Wi-Fi and 16GB of hard disk) can be obtained for $399, in front of $499 of the cheapest iPad (Wi-Fi only and 16GB hard drive). The price of the iPad 4 can shoot up to 829 euros, but it would have features that in the case of Nexus 10, are simply not available (mobile connection and 64GB of hard disk).

    Error: "Neither device has NFC"

The Nexus 10 is not that it has NFC, it is that it has TWO NFC chips.

Indeed, the iPad4 does not carry NFC.

But what fools you are with the retina display, it seems a lie that a magazine like yours does not even know that to be a retina it must exceed 300 ppi. Find out a little Javier Gómez, that you do not find out.

Whether it's retina or not depends on many things like screen size and proper viewing distance, not just pixel density:

If you have any other source where to inform me better, it will always be welcome 🙂
