Today we want to offer you a comparison between LG G Pad 8.3 and Nexus 7 (2013). The new Korean tablet is a return to this format, highly anticipated by consumers and it shows that they have wanted to put all the meat on the grill, not only in terms of specifications, but also with the choice of size and design. The most aggressive bet in the tablet market is, without a doubt, the Google tablet due to its impressive value for money. Therefore, it is worth putting them face to face.
Design, size and weight
El finish that LG has chosen for its device is high-end. The back is made of aluminum while the ASUS-made gear is a soft plastic that feels great but is less durable. Both tablets have managed to significantly reduce the bezel and that gives more prominence to the screen.
The size of both is very similar. What we gain in comfort of use on the screen of one, we lose slightly in the portability of the other.
In terms of thickness there is a minimal difference that we honestly will not notice in use. In the weight section, there is a difference of 40 grams in favor of the American that does not mean a greater effort to support its rival but that favors the feeling of portability.
Screen
Both companies go for it all. Have chosen a very high resolution1920 x 1200 pixel, Full HD that generates a higher pixel density on the Nexus 7 for being a smaller screen.
As for the size, it is a matter of taste. like the aspect ratio, Google opting for the traditional 16: 9 and LG for 16:10 which gives more features in portrait position.
Performance and software
The processor of the Korean model is slightly more powerful than that of the American. We already know that the Snapdragon S4 Pro of the Nexus 7 is modified and comes very close to the features of the Snapdragon 600.
Google's has the latest version of its own OS but without any layer of customization. The LG model carries Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with a very interesting customization layer that allows you to better manage multitasking, turn the device on and off with a double tap and synchronize notifications between the tablet and the new LG G 2.
Storage
Again, the micro SD slot puts a red face on the ASUS-made tablet. Its rivals continue to give Android users what they want: the freedom to manage their content privately and without a mandatory internet connection. Although the American has a second option of 32 GB of internal storage, the LG's additional 64GB tips the scales.
Connectivity
The option of 4G mobile network connectivity on the LG G Pad 8.3 it is out of the picture. This is where your rival pulls out his chest. He also blames the lack of NFC, but we already know that we will only notice it when this technology finally takes off, something that continues to be worryingly delayed.
On the LG side falls the micro HDMI port, ideal for easily exporting content to a larger screen.
For the rest, both have a dual antenna for WiFi and Bluetooth, for communication between devices and devices.
Cameras and sound
FROM endowed in a very similar way. When it comes to cameras, they have sensors with the same number of megapixels and the camera software is very similar.
As for the pair of stereo speakers that both use, the only thing that changes is the location. In Google's they are up and down, which could lead us to cover them when taking it in a landscape position, a classic position for video games. In the LG they are on one of its sides, being able to block them when holding it in a portrait position, especially with one hand.
Battery
Perhaps here part of the slight difference in weight of both teams is explained. The Korean charges a slightly larger battery that will give us a little more autonomy.
Prices and conclusions
All the LG G Pad 8.3 features equal or better than those of his rival, in addition to having a higher build quality. The bad thing is that we still do not know its price. This is where the crux of the matter lies. Is very unlikely to beat the Nexus 7 (2013) in price. Rather, we should expect a cost similar to that of the Note 8.0, always above 300 euros and even close to 400 euros.
If these price forecasts are met, Google's value for money will remain the highest on the market. There is really no decisive star detail that will invite us to spend at least 100 euros more on the LG tablet. The differences are too small to justify that expense.
The closer you stay to 300 euros, the more advisable your purchase will be in the dilemma that we propose in this comparison.
