The Pixelbook is official: all the information

The best forecasts have been fulfilled and, while we wait for their new smartphones, Google has presented us with a convertible with Chrome OS, with which to finally stand up to the hybrids of Apple, Microsoft and Samsung, and perhaps also open a new range of possibilities for high-end Android tablets? We give you all the information about the features, price and availability of the Pixelbook.

This is the Pixelbook: Google's convertible

The first thing we can say about this Pixelbook is that the filtered images turned out to be reliable, because at least in design, it seems to be exactly the same and it is confirmed that, indeed, it is a convertible and we can rotate the keyboard 360 degrees to use it as a tablet. And although we do not have all the exact dimensions yet, they have revealed its weight and thickness and, for this format, it will be quite thin and light (not as much as the iPad Pro the Surface Pro without keyboard, but there is precisely the difference between being able to do without it or not). When it comes to connections, we have two USB Type-C ports (It seems that none conventional, as it happens in the Galaxy Book 12.). What seems to be unconfirmed is the fingerprint reader, which some expected.

If not giving us the possibility of decoupling the keyboard is going to be a disadvantage compared to the formats that its rivals have opted for, it is true that for those less determined to make the leap to hybrids, it is an advantage that it has more presence and in the presentation some time has been dedicated to it, highlighting its ergonomics and that it is backlit (something that was also expected). Not only will we have a keyboard as a work tool, in any case, but the stylus which had been speculating, something logical to take advantage of the touch screen: it is manufactured by Wacom, has a latency of 10 ms, recognizes 60 degrees of tilt and 2000 levels of pressure.

Technical Specifications

The first data that they have revealed to us about its technical specifications are those of the screen, and it seems that the predictions were correct at this point as well, since the screen of this new Pixelbook it's going to be from 12.3 inches and resolution is Quad HD, with a pixel density of PPI 235. Little to envy the iPad Pro or the Surface Pro in this sense, although it is true that it lags a bit behind both, being closer (again) to the Galaxy Book 12 or the Matebook E.

It seems, however, that the leaks (combined with a bit of common sense) were also correct regarding the configurations to be released: there will be models with Intel Core i5, as the records had indicated, but also with Intel Core i7 (as expected for the prices that were handled). It is also confirmed that the internal memory limit is 512 GB, and although it has not been specified, surely the minimum is 128 GB, as usual. What we can add now, that there was not much information about this, is that the RAM memory limit will be 16 GB. And when it comes to software, it goes without saying: it comes with Chrome OS, and another thing that is confirmed, for the first time with Google Assistant.

Price and Availability

When it comes to price and availability, there is good news and bad news. Starting with the most positive, it seems that the only thing the leaks were wrong about was the price, which is somewhat lower than expected for the initial model, with U.S. dollar 999 (The error was not very big, if anything, and it puts you right in the orbit of the Surface and the iPad Pro, as expected). The stylus will sell for $ 99, however, as predicted.

The bad news is that we do not know if there will be a place to worry or not about the conversion to euros, in which we usually lose out, because it seems that from the outset it will not be launched in our country, but for the moment it will be limited to the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. There will always be the option of getting it imported and it is possible, in any case, that depending on the reception you have Google change your mind later (hopefully you don't have to wait for the second generation, like with the Pixels), so don't give it up completely for lost if it has conquered you either. Under these conditions, and also taking into account that it is such a different device, we assume that it will not interfere with the marketing of the Pixel C, which would continue to be for sale.
