Pixel 2 XL vs iPhone X: the best of Google against the best of Apple

With the new Google phablet just introduced, it is imperative to dedicate our comparative from today to him and, of course, the first rival that he will have to face can not be other than the best of Apple's this year, so we have a real duel of the titans ahead of us, to see who has been the one that has left us the most interesting device: Google or Apple ?: Pixel 2 XL vs. iPhone X.

Integrated

As we expected (thanks to the clues that the leaks had left us), the Pixel 2 XL It has joined the prevailing fashion of reducing frames to a minimum, although its resemblance to the LG V30 is quite noticeable and, therefore, there are still important differences with the iPhone X. The aesthetic assessment remains for each one, but what we can say is that in both we will have materials of the highest quality (metal for the phablet of Google, metal and glass for the Apple phablet) and that both are waterproof. We must remember that, yes, that in the apple we no longer have a fingerprint reader, but that the authentication system is now the controversial Face ID. The search engine, in any case, also has its own peculiarity, which is the possibility of launching the assistant by pressing on the side.

Dimensions

It is striking, considering that the two have reduced the frames so much, that there is such a notable difference in size (15,74x7,62 inch against 14,36x7,09 inch), especially since it does not seem to compensate with the one on the screen, as we will see below. In thickness (7,62 cm against 7,7 cm) and by weight (175 grams against 174 grams), however, they are quite close, as you can see.

Screen

Indeed, perhaps not so much as to justify the difference in size, but if we want to enjoy a screen as large as possible, the scale leans to the side of the Pixel 2 XL (6 inches against 5.8 inches) And not only that, but the advantage in terms of resolution is also for the phablet of Google, even if the iPhone X has greatly reduced the differences with the high-end Android (2880 x 1440 front 2436 x 1125). Both, by the way, have OLED panels, only Google's are P-OLED and Apple's Super AMOLED.

Performance

In the performance section it is where we have found the least surprises, because for some time we already knew that finally the new Pixels were not going to be able to release a new Qualcomm chip. The battle is therefore between the Snapdragon 835 (eight cores and 2,45 GHz maximum frequency) compared to the spectacular A11, and with the benchmarks that we have seen to date, here we already know that the potential victory will be for him iPhone X. In RAM memory, however, the Pixel 2 XL (4 GB against 3 GB). And when it comes to phablets from Google and Apple, of course, both come with the latest in their respective operating systems.

Storage capacity

It has also complied quite a lot with what was expected in terms of storage capacity, a section in which the level for the flagship has been raised a lot in recent times and in which all are quite on par, also in this case: in both we will have 64 GB internal memory though, and this is an important detail, no micro-SD card slot.

Cameras

The iPhone 8 Plus camera has left fantastic impressions in independent tests already and that of the iPhone X even brings some improvement, with a dual camera of 12 MP, aperture f / 1.8, optical image stabilizer and optical zoom x2, plus a front camera of 7 MP. The cards with which Google intends to overcome it are a conventional camera (that is, not dual), with 12,2 MP with 1,4 pixels, aperture also f / 1.8, microns, optical and electronic image stabilizer, and with a lot of emphasis, as was the case with its predecessors in the software section. The front camera, meanwhile, is 8 MP.

Autonomy

The really important data in autonomy, you already know that they are what the independent tests leave us and we will have to wait a while until we have some that allow us to make fair comparisons. We can give you, yes, a first approximation with the battery capacity data, with a clear victory for the Pixel 2 XL (3520 mAh against 2716 mAh).

Pixel 2 XL vs iPhone X: final balance of the comparison and price

At least for him Pixel 2 XL we have better news than for the PixelBook (and for its predecessor) and its arrival in Spain is confirmed. It will also do it with a lower price than the iPhone X, starting from $960, which does not make it cheap, but at least gives it some advantage (that of Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), it will cost us at least $1160). A separate question is, if reaching these figures, these price differences are important or not.

As for what each one offers us, it must be said that we are in one of those cases in which personal evaluations are key, especially with regard to the design and the operating system. We will have to wait to see how stopped the pixel XL in the photo tests and how the two do in the autonomy tests, but it is quite safe to say that the iPhone X, yes, it will have an advantage in performance.
