Rockchip brings 4K closer to low-cost tablets

The China-based processor maker has responded to Allwinner, one of its biggest competitors in low-cost chip development, and announced that before 2014 late Up to three new models will be launched on the market, one of them especially interesting that will include 4K video decoding capabilities, allowing tablets that use this processor to record and play (by connecting to an external 4K screen) in that resolution.

The technology sector is one of the fastest advancing, it remains in constant evolution, this means that year after year we find more complete devices, with greater capacities. But this statement is not exclusive to the high end, but there is a drag effect that causes the mid-range and of course, the low end to also continue to improve, adding new features that achieve a user experience more complete without losing its distinctive section: very affordable prices.

Chinese companies are being critical in this regard, and we are not just referring to brands like Huawei or Xiaomi, but also others like Rockchip, which we will talk about in this article. This processor manufacturer along with others like Allwinner to which we referred before, they manage to optimize the production of the chips, reducing the cost per unit to its minimum expression, and therefore, they allow those in charge of developing devices, especially tablets, to gain margin to lower prices significantly.

This is not to say that they do not improve over time. Little by little, features that were once exclusive to high-profile processors and tablets are beginning to be introduced into more modest models. A kind of drag effect through which the mid and low range travel the path that opens the top of the range. Many devices are capable of record in 4K currently, and can play this content if we connect it to a screen with that resolution.

Soon, the low-end could also be able to do it thanks to advances such as those that Rockchip will introduce in its new Maybach processor. This chip could debut before the end of the year and yes, it has 4K support. But in addition to this, it is manufactured in 28nm and could handle eight Cortex A53 cores, as well as include support for HDMI 2.0 and other features.
