Corning announced in a statement yesterday that the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is the first terminal that mounts its new protective glass, the fourth generation Gorilla Glass 4. The South Korean company is thus ahead of other competitors who will surely adopt Corning's renewed solution in future launches. But not only the Galaxy Alpha, today we have known that also the Galaxy Note 4 includes Gorilla Glass 4, making it the first phablet to do so.
Samsung presented the Galaxy Note 4 at the last IFA fair held in September in Berlin. The German capital witnessed the premiere of one of the best devices on the market that among its characteristics we thought that it had Gorilla Glass 3 as a protection system for its 5,7 inch. After announcing yesterday that the Samsung Galaxy Alpha includes the fourth generation of the crystal, Corning has published on its website a section where it reveals that the Galaxy Note 4 has also done the same.
Gorilla Glass 4 was presented on November 20 after the controversy generated with a leak of the Microsoft Lumia 940 which included it among its specifications due to a supposed typing error. The new glass significantly improves the properties of the current generation, with an increase in resistance to different external aggressions. In this way, it will be more difficult for a screen to be scratched or pitted, but the most important thing is that it supports falls at heights of 1 meter with high reliability.
It is a significant leap now that the screens are getting bigger and therefore more prone to breaking in the event of a fall. In addition, this extra protection does not lead to an increase in the thickness of the devices, since Gorilla Glass 4 has a thickness of 0,4 millimeters. With this feature, the Galaxy Note 4 gains an extra security, essential if we take into account the high price of the phablet.
Some of its most outstanding specifications are the 5,7-inch QHD screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, 16 megapixel camera, 3.220 mAh battery and Android 4.4 Kitkat that will update to Android 5.0 Lollipop in early 2015.
