This morning the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active became official. The “rugged” version of the company's smartphone comes with features that make it more shock or drop resistant. Now we know that the South Korean firm has registered the trademark in Norway Galaxy Tab 4 Active, which could indicate that they are working on bringing this model that, among other virtues, would be compatible with IP67 certification, that is, it would be resistant to water and dust.
Samsung, despite including compatibility with the IP67 standard In its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5 has finally decided to launch an ultra-rugged version known by the surname Active. This model maintains the water and dust resistance of the original, but incorporates some features at the design level, such as the use of physical buttons, rubber edges that surround the profile of the device or the Active button oriented to make it more “hard”, both for the more adventurous users who need it in adverse conditions as for those more neglected. All keeping the high-end features: screen, processor, memory, camera, etc.
The closest thing to this that we find in a tablet has been implemented by Sony, which has some models of Xperia Tablet With degree of protection IP55 / 57 or what is the same, they are resistant to water and dust although they do not incorporate other elements that protect it beyond. Although we do not know Samsung's plans, the idea based on those we have seen in mobile phones, could be to create a "rugged" tablet, which, like the Galaxy S5 Active, maintains the original characteristics (or very similar) but has this certification and characteristics, such as the rubber edge for example, that they protect them in case of falls or blows.
The information that reaches us indicates that at a minimum, this idea would be around the heads of those in charge, but quite possibly, it is something else and they may even already be working on this launch. The Asian manufacturer registered in Norway the brand "Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Active" so it would be one of the models of this family the chosen one. Although it may seem a bit strange, Samsung or Apple usually perform these registrations in countries outside the United States so as not to attract attention, although this time it has not gone quite well.
It is true that these features on a tablet, a priori, do not look as useful as on a smartphone, but could have its market. An example apart from those we indicated before, if the device is aimed at a young child, it would be interesting if it was not easy to break. In any case we will have to wait for next movements.
