Today we discovered a really fascinating Apple patent. Its use would make it much safer to use the keyboard while walking. Is about make iPhone or iPad screen transparent every time we are in a messaging appsimply by using a video in real time.
We are all familiar with the feeling of insecurity we get when we type and walk at the same time. By staring at the screen, we lose track of the world around us and move somewhat blindly. Many times it ends up with our device on the ground or simply crashing against something or someone. Apple seems to have come up with a fairly simple solution for this.
The application for this patent was approved in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on Tuesday. However, already in 2012 a first patent was made that approached the idea of transparent messaging. In other words, the apple company has been thinking about the idea for a long time.
In the sketches that accompany the current application, it is shown how it would work on both the phone and the tablet.
The transparent screen would be an illusion or simulation. Simply, when we enter a messaging application we would have a button to activate this option. At that time, the wallpaper of the app would change and transmit an image in real time that our camera would be capturing. So we could continue to see and the textual messages and the keyboard itself would be a floating layer superimposed on reality itself.
It is difficult to know if the Cupertino will introduce this technology in the next versions of their operating system. Without a doubt, it would be a valuable advance but it would require a good job of integration with leading messaging applications, beyond its use in iMessage which has a more limited scope. Either way, it would be a cool addition to iOS 8.
