Surface Pro 4 vs iPad Pro: the great fight for the professional sector

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Apple iPad Pro

La Surface Pro 4 just saw the light today in New York and, of course, the first confrontation to which it must be subjected is with the iPad Pro, the tablet with which Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), tries to answer the dominance that until now the tablets of Microsoft in the sector answer and in which those of Cupertino clearly intend to increase their presence. Are there reasons for those in Redmond to feel threatened or what they have already shown us about their new tablet should be more than enough for them to sleep peacefully? Which of the two tablets best suits your needs? Let's explore it in this first comparative with the Technical specifications of both.

Integrated

Although there are some basic aesthetic differences, as there are with regard to the chosen materials (magnesium for the Surface Pro 4 and aluminum for the iPad Pro) there are quite a few similarities in the design section, undeniably related to the fact that the tablet of Microsoft it has set the guidelines that others have to follow to function in the professional sector. The most obvious similarity is that in both cases the accessories play an essential role, be it the stylus or the keyboard, both instruments that make working with a mobile device much easier. One point in favor of the Redmond d tablet is that thanks to its rear support we can keep it upright without the need to attach the keyboard or any other accessory.

Dimensions

This is one of the sections in which the iPad Pro, since it is much better optimized in this sense (although the limitations that a PC's own hardware imposes on the Surface Pro cannot be ignored). We do not yet have the exact measurements of the Surface Pro 4 but those of Redmond have ensured that despite having a larger screen the dimensions are similar to those of the Surface Pro 3. This means that we would be facing a device of about 29x20 inch in front of another of 30,57x22,06 inch. Victory is for the tablet Microsoft, but we can't lose sight of the fact that its screen is more than half an inch smaller. The advantage of the tablet Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), it is clearer if we compare its thickness (8,4 mm against 6,9 mm) and probably also his weight (it will be necessary to see how much the new model has lost but the Surface Pro 3 weighed 798 grams Meanwhile he iPad Pro Weighs 713 grams.

Screen

As we just mentioned, the screen of the iPad Pro is much larger than that of the Surface Pro 4 (12.3 inches against 12.9 inches). The resolution of the tablet is also higher than Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), with X, but it is compensated for by the difference in size and the result is an identical pixel density, with PPI 265 in both cases.

Performance

This is the point at which without a doubt the Surface Pro 4, which the Redmond have not feared in the presentation to compare with laptops like the MacBook Air (refusing, in fact, to compare it with the iPad Pro for not belonging "to the same class." From what little we still know about the technical specifications of the Apple tablet, however, it seems clear that the difference will be great: we do not yet know the characteristics of the processor A9X  that he rides, but he does have 4 GB of RAM memory, while the Surface Pro 4, will arrive with processor Intel Skylake and with up 16 GB of RAM.

Storage capacity

Another important point in favor of Surface Pro 4 We find it in the storage capacity section: while the iPad Pro will be available with between 32 and 128 GB of internal memory and we will not have the option to expand them externally either, with the Surface Pro there will be the option of getting nothing less than 1 TB of storage, and the minimum in no case will fall below 64 GB.

Cameras

At least with regard to the main camera (because we still do not have the data from the front), we find a tie in the cameras section, with two sensors of 8 MP. Proximity, in any case, contributes to downplaying a section in which it is not advisable to put too much emphasis when it comes to a tablet.

Autonomy

We have hardly any information on the autonomy of either of these two devices, so we cannot yet draw conclusions of any kind regarding which of the two we can expect better results, although it is possible to speculate that, once again, the proximity of the Surface Pro 4 it will hurt PCs in this regard. We hope to bring you more accurate data soon, in any case.

Price

This is one of the crucial questions, fundamental to choose between both models for a good number of users: does the difference in technical specifications correspond to the difference in price? Well, although we do not know if we can take any important surprise when we have the prices in euros of the Surface Pro 4, at the moment it seems that they will be in a very similar range: the tablet of Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), it will cost $800 and of Microsoft $ 900.

ummm I expected a surprise on the screen that resembled the dell XPS 13 that is a laptop and very soon a new version with the latest chip comes out with more memory and more performance in all its characteristics.
Well now we just have to wait for the new Google tablet and the long-awaited Nvidia Shield 2 to come out and we'll have this Christmas to decide on.

Amazing to compare churras with merino. But if one thing has nothing to do with another. Ipad pro I would call it Ipad pencil. On surface something that inside carries an I7 and 16 gb of ram is all said.

I say the same. Now in the company I carry a Lenovo tablet with windows 8.1 ... and for me, it is a laptop. It has nothing to do with an iPad.
I ended up taking off the cover / keyboard and taking it purely as a tablet. Not bad but they are two different worlds.
