Microsoft seems to want to react to a very uneven start to its bet on tablets with the unsuccessful launch of its model for Windows RT. The coup would be to accelerate the arrival of the premium model that loads Windows 8 that was scheduled for the first quarter of 2013 and that will arrive as soon as the beginning of the year. Just in case, rumors suggest that they have three models in the bedroom for next year to rectify an undervalued offer. For now, we have this most advanced model of your first bet and we will have to see how the copper is beaten. It would be nice to see how it gets on par with the best Android tablet on the market. Here goes one comparison between Surface Pro and Nexus 10.
Size and weight
The Windows 8 tablet does not fare well in this section and does not reach the slenderness and compression of the design of Android tablets. Google's is a really thin tablet with a weight commensurate with its size.
Screen
The resolution of the advanced model of the small window company greatly improves that of its first bet thus finding itself in the numbers of a high-end model and making use of its ClearType technology. However, little or nothing can be done against 2560 x 1600 pixels producing 300 ppi definition.
Performance
We are facing two real beasts. The Surface Pro processor is the latest generation of dual-core Intel Core-i5 with powers that start from 3,3 GHz and reach 3,7 GHz with the turbo. In this sense, it is well above the CPU of the Exynos 5 chip that carries two ARM Cortex-A15 cores at 1,7 GHz, which even being the latest ARM technology, does not reach that power. The graphics processors of both are excellent too and above they come with 4 GB of RAM and 2 GB of RAM respectively. In the numbers Microsoft's device is clearly better, although your operating system also needs more power to move.
Storage
There is no color here, although Windows 8 uses almost 15 GB of memory but you would still have 49 GB or 113 GB left and in case you have an SD slot for another 32 GB. This means that you don't have to worry too much about space. In the Nexus 10 again the same mistake is made as in Nexus 7. There is no SD card slot and the 16 GB and 32 GB are few. It is clear that its creators are betting on the cloud and that you can buy the contents and enjoy them in streaming or download them when you need them, but it will be difficult to have everything we need inside.
Connectivity
It is a section in which they are quite even. Both have dual antenna for WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. The HDMI and USB ports are although the latter not OTG in the case of Google. What it has that its rival is not the NFC port, a technology that is more a promise of the future than a reality although it points far and well.
Cameras and sound
Those of Mountain View have done their homework in this section while those of Redmond have fallen a little short. In a way it is difficult to think that a tablet as little portable as yours is going to call to shoot photos with it. In terms of sound, they go hand in hand with its two stereo speakers.
Accessories and battery
The keyboard of the Microsoft tablet does not provide additional battery but rather the opposite. It is an element great for productivity but it doesn't bring that advantage that Asus hybrids do, the Transformer. The 4 hours of this tablet disappoint compared to the 10 of the device manufactured by Samsung, although if we think about the use that we would give it, more as a laptop than as a mobile device, it should not worry us so much.
Price and conclusions
Surface Pro it has conditions of a high-end ultrabook, in this sense, its performance is superior and it is accompanied by an operating system that allows us to do any known office automation operation. It's great for productivity. Nexus 10 is what we can ask of a tablet: it is portable, it is impressive for content, its operating system is designed for a total touch experience and it has aspects related to mobility. They are tablets that due to their power are valid for everyone if we look for applications for it, but a priori they tend towards different points.
However, when we look at the price we can come to a quick conclusion. If we wanted to try, it would be easier to dare with Nexus 10, which is great value for money, and we would still have a good amount of money to invest in a Windows 8 ultrabook.
