On many occasions we have told you about the educational function than tablets they are occupying among the new generations. A study by the IDC consultancy indicates that in the United States Tablet orders from the education sector have doubled in the last year.
The concrete figures point to a 103% growth in orders in 2012 compared to the previous year and that this push in purchases has led tablets to represent 35% of the personal computers present in the American educational system.
The data shows that it has not been only the most progressive private schools (K-12) that have promoted this barrage of tablets in the classrooms. Manufacturers, content creators and companies that sell equipment have also been behind these figures.
In the words of Tom Mainelli, an analyst at IDC, the study expected to find in the K-12 schools as the promoters of contracts with manufacturers, developers and distributors showing you the business possibilities after an initial investment. However, the United States government is also very much in favor of digitizing education, taking the recent low prices of tablets as a fundamental ally.
The study foresees that this presence continues to grow over the next few years and the growth rate could be even higher in the future. Increasing competition in this sector is causing a drop in prices that consumers, including schools, are taking advantage of.
Surely when reading this information many of us think: the same as in Spain, yes. The reality of the digitization of education in our country is, to say the least, sad. It is not only that the government does not put any interest in it and that there is no investment, but that the teachers are not prepared and there is no political will to train them. To this must be added the lack of negotiating attitude of education managers in Spain to reach promotional agreements with manufacturers, perhaps constrained by a rigid legal framework for private investment.
