After last week reviewing the must-have video game classics which we can enjoy on our mobile devices, and even more so considering that the North American April Fool's Day has us all playing PAC-MAN on Google Maps, we have not been able to resist the temptation to explore retro-gaming a little more and now leave you a top 5 (+1) with a few of the classic arcade titles more interesting that we can already find in the App Store and in Google Play. How many of these have you played in recreational machines or would you have liked to do it? Would you add any?
PAC-MAN
We start with the classic among the classics, the famous eat-coconuts to which surely you have ever played at least one game. And if for some reason you have not done it, there is no excuse not to try it immediately, especially on Android, where it is free (although there is also a free "lite" version also in the App Store). It is also the work of the developers of the original game and they have recreated it to perfection. And although it is appreciated that they have kept all the flavor of the PAC-MAN original, it must be said that the addition of new mazes and game modes does not hurt, including one that allows us to compete against other users. And if you are wanting more, it is no longer the classic game, but the runner inspired by him it is also very worthwhile.
Tetris
We have said that the PAC-MAN is the classic among the classics of arcade games, but the truth is that the Tetris I would have the right to dispute the title. In this case, if we want the original game experience, we will have no choice but to resort to simulators, but it must be said that the official game for mobile devices, created by EA, has enough arguments to satisfy fans of the popular game of puzzle, even if the aesthetics and some elements have been more adapted to the tastes of current audiences. And, as in the previous case, it also doesn't hurt that new game modes have been included, to give it a breath of fresh air. The version for iOS that we highlight is the premium one, but you also have a free version if you want to try it a little first.
Double Dragon
Double Dragon It may not have the popularity of the previous ones but it comes to fill a very important gap in our list, which is that of games of action arcade, the predecessors of all the fighting games that are so popular now. In this case, the version for mobile devices is developed by one of the most classic studios like this one that are recovering for iOS and Android. The gaming experience, in any case, is exactly that of the original, only concentrating its three installments in a single download. As in tablets and smartphones, however, the controls make the game a bit more difficult than you might expect, it must be said that there is a special mode where they have been specially adapted to touch screens.
R-TYPE
From the same developer to whom we owe the power to enjoy Double Dragon on our smartphones and tablets (we already anticipated that they are one of the most prominent in this subgenre), we cannot fail to mention either R-TYPE, a classic arcade games little martians (with permission, of course, from Space Invaders, the founding father of the genre) for all fans of spaceship games and shoot'em up games. As in the previous one, here they have also included game modes with controls specially designed for touch screens, which takes away some of the retro flavor, but makes it much more manageable. And by the way, you also have a R-TYPE II available.
Pang Adventures
We would have liked to be able to introduce a little more variety in terms of studies, but we could not resist introducing a third title of DotEmu, because this is another of the arcade classics that has to enter a list like this: the popular superpang. Of all the titles in the top 5 this is perhaps the one in which certain changes are most appreciated compared to the original, especially in the visual plane (although you will also notice that the brothers have time for some new weapons), but in any case the recreation It is still very good and if you have spent a few hours of your childhood / youth unfolding balls on stages around the world we are sure that you are going to enjoy it.
Snake Rewind
We end up with a game that is not properly an arcade classic, but that actually looks a lot like it and with which, equally, surely many of us have spent many hours at the time. The "rebirth" of Nokia 3310In addition, it has made it fully up to date. We refer of course to Snake, the simple but addictive game of the snake one of the first Nokia, which can now be played through Facebook, but which for some time already had a quite convincing version (although “modernized” with some power-up and others, how could it be less) and also free.
