Yesterday we allowed ourselves a concession to nostalgia to review the tablets that have made history and today we are going to allow ourselves another to take out of the trunk of memories all the ones that left us wanting, tablets that many of us were looking forward to, of which there was a lot of talk, but which, for different reasons, we never got to get our hands on.
The tablets that never happened to be projects
In the world of technology we are always looking to the future, eager to know what awaits us in the next season and we are always trying to get information about the most interesting projects in which the big manufacturers are working. It must be said that rumors and leaks are very accurate quite often, although they always have to be taken with caution, but it is true that more than once they have left us wanting, even when they are reliable, simply because they do not end with get ahead, no matter how good they sounded to us.
The Surface mini
There was a time when it seemed that the iPad Pro It was going to be the most famous example of this, as long as it was delayed, but the honor will probably go to the end in the end. surface mini, of whose existence it would have been justified to doubt, but of which years later we have had confirmation that it was very real, images included. Maybe yes Microsoft I would have found a way to make compact and affordable tablets interesting with Windows. The evolution of this operating system would have been different, but as things have happened, we have moved to the opposite extreme.
The Nexus 8
Although it will be more difficult for many to remember it, the second place could well correspond to the Nexus 8 And here we do not know how much truth was behind the rumors and leaks. We have to say, however, that it is one of the ones that we have the most desire for it to become a reality at some point, because as we already discussed one day at length, the Nexus 7 didn't really have heiresses and it is something that is missing.
The Mi Pad 3 Pro
We are going to give the bronze medal to a more recent disappointment that still stings a bit, because we know that it was a project that many wished had come true: a Mi Pad 3 that not only came with Windows as the operating system but also allowed us to enjoy it with hardware at the same level as that of high-end Windows tablets. It only remains to hope that at some point Xiaomi will revert to the idea of a Mi Pad 3 Pro and decide to take something like that to the stores.
Other notable cases
There are a few other tablets that you heard a lot about at the time but that unfortunately did not materialize: you may remember the Moto X Tablet, in which it was said that Google works when Motorola still belonged to him (by the way, there is now supposed another amazing tablet from the company in the oven, let's hope it doesn't end the same); the news that the Shield Tablet it had been canceled was also very bad news; we were also left with the desire to see what HTC could surprise us with in the field of tablets after taking over the Nexus 9, although what really liked at the time was the idea of a HTC OneTablet.
Those that can be bought, but with many difficulties
It seems that at this point it should not be a major problem if a tablet is not marketed in Spain when dozens of models arrive from China, but the reality is that it is not always so simple, because imports do not cover everything. LGFor example, it is just taking out many of its latest tablets from Korea and getting them abroad is quite difficult. Amazon also launched in the United States other models in its Fire range (including a 10-inch one) that never made it here. Our main frustration right now, however, is the Galaxy Book 10.6, one of the best 10-inch tablets of 2017, which at the moment we only find imports with prices that are too high.
The ones we still hope to see
In addition to that tablet of Motorola of which we spoke before, in the category of rumors that can still become reality, the protagonism is above all for the folding tablets, and more specifically that which is speculated that Samsung could finally take to stores for real (although perhaps not in our country either) as soon as the end of this year or the beginning of the next, after having received news for years that the Koreans were teaching prototypes behind closed doors.
And a Galaxy Tab Edge?
We end up with a tablet that cannot actually be said to have even been a project, because there is no proof of its existence outside of the dreams of tech fans: the Galaxy Tab Edge. And yet, we have little doubt that following in the wake of the iPad Pro 10.5, riding a the future of tablet design is increasing the screen / size ratio, reducing side frames, and if there is anyone capable of surpassing Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), in this sense it is undoubtedly Samsung. Maybe for the Galaxy Tab S4?
