The most interesting news in Windows 10

As expected, yesterday Microsoft let us see a preview of the next update of its operating system and, despite the numerous leaks that we have witnessed for months, it cannot be said that the surprises have been lacking, starting with the name, which will ultimately not be Windows 9, but Windows 10. The great novelty, however, was not unknown to us, but it did arrive earlier than expected: the unification of all the versions that exist today, for PCs, tablets and smartphones.

Windows 10: a single operating system for all devices

As we said, the news that Microsoft working on the unification of all its operating systems does not really catch us by surprise, since it is something that has been known since this summer that Nadella wanted to end Windows fragmentation, end the isolation in which both departments worked and take advantage of the pull of their PC software to gain ground in that of mobile devices.

Windows 10 unification

How will it work? The answer is quite simple, although getting it should not have been so: Windows 10 will recognize the type of computer it is running on and will fit each device. This means that depending on the size of the screen and whether or not we have a keyboard and mouse connected to it, Windows 10 It will show us the applications with one or another format or with one or another organization. Considering the huge variety of devices it can work on (with screens that can even be 4 inches or 40 inches) this has a really great merit. The video that you have below these lines, shows us how it works with a Surface Pro 3.

What advantages will it have? Well, apart from the most obvious of giving us continuity between one device and another, probably the most positive consequence that emerges from this change that has been announced Microsoft is that there will also be a unification of applications. What do you mean this? In terms of what interests us as users, it means that we will only have to buy an application once and we will have it at our disposal on any of the devices with Windows that we have.

New features and functionalities

Although this unification was the main protagonist of the event, it is not the only novelty, since Windows 10 also brings us a few new features and functionalities, although it is true that most of them we had already learned through leaks.

Windows 10 startup

The start menu. One of the "novelties" with which there has been more speculation is the return of the classic start menu and, indeed, it will be. There will be some changes, however, such as a space dedicated to applications that we can customize by choosing our favorites.

Applications will open in windows. Windows Store applications will work like desktop applications, opening in windows that we can resize, minimize, maximize and move.

Multiple desks. Another functionality that we knew would be included is the option to create multiple desktops, each of which we can organize in a different way and then allow one to the other with ease.

Document explorer. Various improvements have also been made so that we can navigate through our documents and locate them more quickly, including an option to display recently used ones.

Task button. We will also have a new button that allows us to view all applications, documents and desktops that we have open and that allows us to move from one to another quickly and comfortably.

Split screen. Now we can have up to 4 applications open at the same time on the screen and Windows can even make suggestions for other applications that you could use if you have space available.

Windows 10

Will be released in 2015

It was also within expectations that despite the earlyness of this first preview, we would still have to wait a long time for its launch. Effectively, Microsoft has confirmed that it will not take place until 2015. We are also awaiting more details about the price and requirements of this new version of Windows but, of course, we will keep you informed of any news.

Los de Redmond has released the video of the presentation, in any case, if you want to know Windows 10 in more detail and with moving images.
