Hugo Barra, former of Google and current visible head of Xiaomi, has recently given an interview to explain some of the firm's next moves, such as its global expansion, updates to Android 5.0 or your position with respect to Android One. According to Barra, both high-end and mid-range terminals will receive Lollipop over the next few months.
Xiaomi's dandy has made its fair share of headlines in an interview recently given to The Next Web. In it, he reviews the agenda of his company, touching on really interesting topics. Hugo Barra: the adoption of Android 5.0 is my priority
Despite the fact that his firm uses a rather special characterization of the Google system, Barra knows that there are two more or less well differentiated sectors among users, the Android fans and those of MIUITherefore, the integration of Lollipop is presented as the challenge of making both languages converge while each one of them maintains its "essence".
Both Mi, that is, the high-end Xiaomi terminals, such as the Redmi, mid-range and entry, will have their update to Android 5.0. For the former, an approximate date has already been offered: the first quarter of 2015, probably at the end of it; for the latter, however, there is nothing concrete for now.
"We want to be part of Android One"
This intention of Xiaomi may certainly sound strange, since the Chinese company has so far made use of Android quite a bit far from the parameters imposed by Google to its main partners. MIUI is too out of the norm customization and the fact that it uses its own app store and doesn't have native Play Store support doesn't help either.
Still Hugo Barra is shown enthusiastic with what Android One means and he says he shares that feeling with other Xiaomi executives, so, in his words, “it is a matter of time”That they participate in the project by contributing at least one team.
