Sony surprised us in September with two modular lenses for mobile phones. The Sony QX10 and QX100 add capabilities of compact cameras to the smartphone photography application. Although the compatibility with Android terminals is wide, they can even be connected to iPhone, the Japanese brand has designed its own housings for its flagships to make their use more comfortable. The last to arrive is the DSC QX Series case for Xperia Z Ultra.
The QX10 and QX100 lenses communicate with mobile devices using WiFi Direct, a local network created by the device itself. Then they can use the NFC for quick setup, but it is not necessary. In this way, they can work independently, that is, the lens and the camera do not necessarily have to be in contact. Even if we put a microSD card in the lens, it works as a standalone camera.
However, Sony also thought of a more traditional configuration. The lenses themselves had deployable temples that adjusted to the width of the phone and allowed to have the set in a single body. In this way, its handling was not very different from that of a compact camera. The problem is that the Xperia Z Ultra is too big to use this form of restraint, so I needed some solution.
To facilitate this operation, there are some terminals that have covers that allow the lens to be attached more easily and without the need to carry the attachment with pins that makes the attachment. In addition, they offer a degree of protection to the phone when we are not using the lens.
Of course, Sony took the lead alone and, until now, only the Xperia Z and Z1 had a similar accessory. Thanks to the Internet, now it is the turn of the giant phablet with 6,44 inches of screen. And the approach is exactly the same.
