Tor for Android can now be downloaded from the Play Store

The famous incognito browser has finally reached the Play Store. Thor, the onion browser, has appeared with its Alpha version in the Play Store, thus allowing the famous anonymous browser to be installed for the first time that allows safe browsing, without records and without leaving traces.

The advantages it offers Tor At the level of privacy there are many, however, Android users have had to figure out with other programs because the program was not available for the operating system.

What advantages does Tor offer?

When you browse the Internet, an infinity of data related to your browsing habits is stored on third-party servers, information that can later be used against you for the massive sending of advertising and other unfriendly practices. The only way to avoid this is to surf the Internet completely anonymously, and for that there are these browsers, which by means of proxies and encrypted communications avoid any type of unwanted registration. Among its characteristics we can find:

  • Trackers blocking: Tor is responsible for protecting each visit by avoiding the registration of cookies and deleting them the moment you complete the navigation.
  • Defense against browsing habits monitoring: The websites cannot offer you advertisements related to your visits. No browsing logs are produced and no website is capable of detecting which visits you have made.
  • Denial of use of the fingerprint reader: There is no way you can authenticate through the fingerprint reader.
  • Multi-layer encryption: When using Tor on Android, your browsing goes through an encryption system three times within the Tor network.
  • Free navigation: There is no way for your data provider to block your visits. With Tor, the entire internet is accessible.

How to get started with Tor for Android

Before you rush to install Tor Alpha, you must bear in mind that it is an unfinished version of the browser, so you could run into errors and failures when visiting certain websites. In addition, one of the limitations that the total security of our privacy implies is the impossibility of visiting pages based on flash or other external plugins, although all these types of precautions that the browser takes will be of no use if we do not browse consciously.

Once the Alpha is downloaded and installed, you will need to install a separate proxy (Orbot, for example) for the connection to succeed. This process is not normal, since Tor it takes care of connecting to a secure proxy automatically, but due to the version of the app, this feature is not included for now.
