Microsoft has published in its Windows official blog one of the hitherto unknown novelties of Windows 10. We already knew that the new version will incorporate the new Spartan browser, will bring new features in the interface and universal applications, also the integration of Cortana and much more. But there are finer aspects, in principle secondary but that can become of great importance, such as a reducing the space that the operating system will occupy, which will leave more free space in the storage memory of the devices.
Basically, Microsoft has carried out two great optimizations that will make tablets with little storage capacity, especially those with 16 and 32 GB of memory, win a precious space that will now be available for other purposes. These models are now much more common than a year or two ago, since the change in licensing policy of the Redmond ones led many manufacturers to jump into the development of cheap Windows tablets.
System file compression
With the new version, Windows can efficiently compress system files by releasing approximately 1,5 GB on 32-bit devices and 2,6 GB on 64-bit devices. This algorithm can also be used on smartphones and guarantees that the device works properly. To do this, Windows automatically evaluates the amount of RAM of the team and the speed of its CPU (both factors determine the speed at which the compressed files can be accessed), if they are sufficient to guarantee an optimal experience, use the algorithm, if, on the contrary, you consider that they are not, discard this option, always giving priority to speed system response.
New recovery system
Until now, to restore tablet functionality, Windows used a recovery image pre-installed by the manufacturers on the device. With Windows 10 it will no longer be needed, which will free up between 4 GB and 12 GB depending on the model in question. Instead, the recovery will be done using the runtime system files. These take up much less storage space and provide an extra advantage, it will no longer be necessary to install a long list of updates if we need to reset the device to its factory state.
