On Monday we introduced you to Akyumen, a not very well known firm based in Mountain View that, through terminals such as Holophone, intended to recover an old trend that fell into oblivion consisting of equipping phablets with projectors. Through the characteristics of this model, we were able to see how there are small companies that also aspire to the highest thanks to balanced terminals in terms of their characteristics but that, in the case of this device, the price was an obstacle that in the short term term, is a determining factor for the implantation of this device in the market before the push of other innovative devices from Asian markets.
However, this company has also made the leap to the field of tablets thanks to models such as Falcon, presented during the MWC which took place in Barcelona in February and which is the flagship of this technology at least during 2016. Below we will tell you more about a model that aims to set a new precedent in the sector and we give you more details about its characteristics. Will it be able to compete not only against Asian companies, but also against its rivals at the local level?
Integrated
As with the Holophone, exact dimensions of this device, as well as its weight and the material of its finishes, have not been released and they are only visible through the photographs released by the Akyumen. However, its developers claim that it is the thinnest tablet in the world, something that must be taken with caution if we take into account that at the top it has a projector.
Screen
These characteristics, as was the case with the model that we presented to you on Monday, are with which this company intends to set distance from its rivals. Falcon has a diagonal of 10.1 inches, accompanied by an HD resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels. At the same time, it is endowed with two cameras: A rear of 13 Mpx and a front of 5. However, and as with the Holophone, the most striking thing about this tablet is the existence of a projector that once again, you can play content on screens up to 100 inches. This is a nod both to domestic audiences, as well as to other sectors such as education and even gamers.
Performance
As additions to the processor and memory, it should be noted that Falcon has its own cooling system developed and manufactured by the company itself. The chip is paid by Intel, which has endowed this model with Cherry Trail 8300, capable of reaching peaks of 1,84 GHz. Refering to RAM, we are in front of a terminal that has 3 GB, which would place it within the mid-range and to which is added a high storage capacity of 128 and expandable through Micro SD cards.
Operating System
This element would be the one that made the difference and gave rise to two different versions. In the first place, we would have a model that would run exclusively with Windows 10. Second, one that would have dual boot in what would be a nod more towards the professional sector and that in addition to this platform, would have Android 5.1. In terms of connectivity, and as usual, it is prepared to support networks 3G, 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth generation.
Autonomy
As with the Holophone, a terminal with an integrated projector must not only have a powerful processor to support the consumption of resources it requires, but also the most durable batteries possible. In the case of the phablet, this was one of its limitations that manufacturers tried to overcome with a support to charge it while it was being used. However, Falcon seems to solve this problem with a larger component that rubs against the 7.500 mAh.
Availability and price
The Akyumen tablet was officially presented at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It was accompanied not only by Holophone, but also by other terminals such as Hawk Dimension, which is the jewel in the company's crown in the high-end phablet sector. Currently, it is possible to acquire Falcon through the company's website through a reserve. It is available in two colors: Black and Silver. It will be officially marketed from November 5th. As for its price, it will suffer variations depending on the chosen terminal and the accessories that accompany it. The most basic, focused on students, will have a starting price of U.S. dollar 600. The highest, will be around 950.
Akyumen wants to be a benchmark within all consumer sectors. Both in the home and professional public, elements such as the built-in projector, seek to become a trend and configure Falcon as a bet to take into account.
